Scottish Power vs EDF

Options
Hi, I have been with Scottish Power for about 3 years and have been considering changing to EDF as all of the search engines state that I can save further money.

From reading the reviews, people only seem to post bad ones.

Just wondering what peoples experience of EDF was like and if they (or Scottish Power) are planning to dramatically increase their prices?

FYI, I have had no problems with Scottish Power (who appear to to be cheapest apart from EDF Online Energy v5.1 Tariff)

Many thanks in advance

I switched from SP to EDF a few months ago. All OK but I prefer SP's online account management. Don't like it enough to pay for it though, so will be with EDF for a while

i was with EDF a few years ago and it was fne but then SP came in with a cheap fixed deal last year ( dont get me started on the education level of the saleswoman who didnt know the difference between fixed and capped ! ).

SP - as usual - set the DD far too high so I am lots in credit. I have just had the renewal in by email. Instead of a personalised quote for where I am ( I presume they do know where I live since they send the electricity and gas there! ), I have to look through 4 different tables for about 18 areas of the country to see what they will charge me on a new capped deal. There are *, #, 1,2,3 notes everywhere and trying to find out what *,#,1,2,3 etc actually mean is a flipping nightmare!

The 5.1 tarif is the one uswitch etc are saying is the cheapest for me, so just on that I should be better off. So I reckon, if I do it with topcashback (60 quid direct with EDF ) and take into account the nectar points I should be well ahead of the game.

I have also just signed up for the new EDF deal last night (via topcashback) I am currently on the Scottish power fix until Aug 31st 2009. I really liked the scottish power website and the fact that you can see where you are at any point day or night BUT like Magentasue has already said its not worth the extra £200 per year.

I also dont like the way scottish power are trying to trap people into another fix when there current fix finishes.

someone else just pointed out Toppcashback are offering £60 to switch to edf
  • I got the following offer from SP today, oes anyone know if it's OK?....
Your Fixed Price Energy Offer ends on 31st August 2009 and because you're an important customer to us, we want to let you know what happens next.

If you're happy to cap your prices for the next 12 months, you don't need to do a thing. On 1st September 2009, we'll automatically move you to a great new deal called Capped Price Energy September 2010.*

With this deal you'll have peace of mind knowing that over the next 12 months your prices could go down, but they definitely won’t go above the capped rates.

There may be a cancellation charge if you decide to end the new deal early.** But, if you stick with it, you’ll have the reassurance that your prices will not rise above the capped rates until after 31st August 2010 – whatever happens to the market.

Hi,I am in the same boat, was told edf was about to end the offer. Most of the sites do not deal with edf.I like others am happy with SP and am dubious about the bad reviews of EDF. The saving is about £150 for me.Has any one come across SP,s freshstart? It,s for people like me, disabled, over 60, they guarantee that I will always be on their cheapest prices no matter how I pay. Waiting for more info from them. If it,s no good then I may try edf, might be too late after 31st august

I am very wary of Scot.Power since checking a friends bills - For their own reasons they are on the standard Qtly Bill - Pay by cheque tariff - But despite the account being zeroed every Qtr, SC kept raising bills with a start date and meter readings of the previous bill, then adjusting the new bill with credits.
The amounts credited for Elec. Gas & VAT seemed kosher until I checked how they had been applied to the new bill and found that instead of applying the Gas credit to Gas, the Elect. credit to Elect. & the VAT credit to VAT, they were totalling the new bill and simply deducting the total value of the credits from the bottom line - This vastly inflates the VAT to be paid and interestingly within 12 days of sending a letter of complaint, they issued a refund of £38.70.
If you have had overlapping bills adjusted by credits from SC, check them now

We've been with EDF for many years on an old online tarrif that I've never managed to beat yet, but keep trying!

Not had any problems with EDF apart from every now and again they do an annual review and want me to pay lots more. However, we pay of anything outstanding and set our own payments without problem, effectively giving us a 0% loan of their money for a year.
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!
