To eat: Chicken and chorizo stew with onion and red peppers with rice, mushroom and mixed seafood risotto with salad, potato, chickpea and chard curry on its own or with naan.

[/LIST]Thank you :) I take it it doesn't matter which pastry you use?

I got caught out.. hee hee. I wouldn't say it would matter.

I tend make savoury shortcrust out of laziness, I can't be bothered to make puff pastry, it takes too long by hand :D. Plus I find puff pastry on the bottom goes soggy.

In the days of making beef wellington (I'm not planning to do it again unless Mr Maitane grows me a cow), I'd make a short pastry for the bottom and puff for the top. Cheaty but good.

Thank you again! I'll give these a go one day :) (with shortcrust :p)

I've never attempted puff pastry and doubt I ever will! I know my dad says it's easier to just buy it and he used to be a chef, so it sounds like too much hard work to me!

That sounds so nice! I usually save cobblers and similar dishes for colder weather - it gives me something to look forward to at the end of summer. I might change my mind now you've mentioned it, though - your root veg one sounds very appealing!

Yes, I know it's Thursday. I don't often post on this thread because I find I don't stick to my plans. However, I'm finding that I'm sticking to them more and more lately so here goes:

Monday -Leftover roast chicken hashed with potatoes, carrots and onion, leftover gravy and bread sauce. Green veg

Tuesday- Sausage and barley broth, bread The stock used for the broth was made from the chicken carcase eaten on Sunday. This meal allowed 1lb of sausages feed 5 generously.

Wednesday -Smoked mackerel, brown rice pilaff, salad
there was smoked mackerel leftover, so we've had smoked mack pate for lunch

Thursday-Leftovers from the freezer -bean stew combined with bolognese sauce to make 'Cowboy Beans', American biscuits (sconelike quick bread) and salad

Friday -Onion bhajis, split pea and coconut dhal, rice, mango chutney

Saturday- Crispy Duck Pancakes- The duck was a bit of a splurge. I shall bung it in the oven for a few hours, shred it saving the fat;) and serve with cucumber, spring onions, hoisin sauce and Chinese pancakes (I've got loads of these in the freezer as they come in 100s), blackberry, apple and almond cobbler

Sunday -hoping there'll be leftover duck-Braised lentils with duck, sausages and carrots, potatoes fried in the duck fat, a green veg, leftover blackberry and apple cobbler

The duck carcase will be made into stock on Monday;) I like to roll one meal into another by using leftovers, making stock, saving fat from roast to fry up potatoes etc

Puddings on week days are usually fruit or hm plain yogurt with honey or hm jam.

The sausage and barley broth sounds like the kind of soup my OH will eat (he doesn't really do veggie soups ) and all the stuff I usually have indoors anyway.

Will make a note of that one for later. Thanks thriftlady.

I second the vote for the sausage soup - that sounds divine. I don't really do soup in the summer, though, so roll on winter! :snow_grin
