I bought an expensive coat from top shop, spilt fanta on it, the fanta caused weird stains, even after I'd tried to clean it.

They exchanged it without question.

I'm not surprised, some shops just dole out the goods to con artists like you to save hassle

Glad OP got prob sorted but just wanted to point out that the above isn't actually true. You just have to be able to prove purchase so bank/CC statement would be adequate, and the fact that it was in a sale makes absolutely no difference whatsoever (unless it was in the sale with a note on saying 'will stain if worn in rain' etc!) as same SOGA rights apply to sale or full price items. Obv a store's own returns policy for wrong size/don't like/don't need scenarios can say pretty much what it likes about being in the sale etc.

Just wanted to clear that up!
