Blackberry e-mails and Outlook 2003

I am going to get a Blackburry Curve. Could someone explain how simple it is to set up for use with my @mydomainname.net e-mail account which I use with Outlook at the moment. I would ideally want e-mails to be sent to the Blackberry but also appear in the inbox as I need to keep a copy of e-mails for future reference.

Is this possible and easy to set up?

Thanks.

It's pretty straight forward, who's your provider?

Basically, Voda/Orange/o2/whatever will have a blackberry email site. You create an account using details obtained from your blackberry and there's an option to set up your email account there. You'll need your email address and password, possibly the pop3 smtp address but it should try to do it all automatically.

By default, the blackberry simply takes a copy of your emails and allows Outlook to download them too, so you shouldn't have any trouble with having a copy on both.

Thanks so much for your reply.

My provider is Vodafone and I use Outlook 2003 with the domain which is hosted by my hosting company (I use CPanel for that).

I don't suppose it syncs also so that when I reply to an e-mail on the Blackberry it will also appear in the "Sent" box in Outlook.

    Cheers.

That will be where you set up your email account when you receive your device. When you go to create a new account on that site it'll as you for some details from your device, that should be available under Options>Status. The details for setting up your email address should be provided by CPanel - something like pop3.yourdomain.com etc.

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to synchronise your sent items, but if you or anyone finds out a way I'll be very interested to hear it as I've got some clients who had the same issue :).

Could you Cc or Bcc your sent mail to your own address?

    Hi Bradc

Awesome choice with the Curve!! (That's my phone too!)

Setting up the email on your BlackBerry is really easy.
    • In your main menu, press Setup
    • Select Mobile Email Settings
    • It will take you to a page where you press Create new accouont
    • It gets you to set up a username and password for managing your email addresses
    • It will then ask you to set up your emial account.
    • If its a generic email address (GMail, YMail etc) all you'll need to enter is your email address and password
    • You can select OWA setup for your Outlook account where it will ask you for a couple more details.
It is possible to copy any messages you send to your own email address so they will appear on Outlook as well.

Any messages that come to your BlackBerry will still show in your Outlook mailbox as well by default.

    Thanks
