Discount on Ebay

Recently wanted 5 of the same items on ebay. Asked seller if he would give discount and he said he would take £5 off. So go ahead and buy and went to pay but no discount had been applied. Emailed 3 times asking for revised invoice and today he has replied saying pay full amount and then I will refund the £5 when the item arrives when you contact me.
What does he gain out of doing this apart from sitting on my fiver ?

Not a whole lot... unless he's not going to send the £5 back.

We deal with any refunds like that (because of Buy it Nows on instant payment, it happens a lot) when we print the postage from Paypal. We post nightly, so it's not a big delay for buyers.

I am not sure you can do much as I don't think that buyers have to offer postage discounts. I would just pay and if he doesn't give the postage discount offered then give him 5 negative marks saying that he didn't give the promised discount as a warning to others.

The thing is originally I only wanted 3 of the items and asked if he would give discount.
he said yes-only if you buy 5 which I have done.
Just dont understand asking for an extra £5 and then refunding later

In that case I would report him and see if Ebay will cancel the transaction and lift your obligations to buy from them. I wouldn't accept paying full postage cost and getting £5 refund later as that sounds dodgy as hell. It doesn't take 10 seconds to send a new invoice.

How do I report him and get ebay to cancel the transaction?

Go into your won items, on the drop down menu for the items should be an option to "report a problem" or something like that, it should let you request a cancel of the transaction.

maybe its so that if you dont leave positive feedback he wont refund you the £5! (just me playing devils advocate here) i cant see any other reason to be honest! he doesnt gain anything from it.

Once you receive, email him, give him a few days to respond. If he's not refunding, give him a big fat neg and report him.
