I am clearing my house not cleaning it since I am moving in 5 weeks (house sold). His feedback before it went private was 50% negative so I am not hopeful. If he cant afford to pay £2.30 then I think he needs to come to this site! I would never bid on anything I couldnt pay for. I know he is being honest but I now have to chase him up for payment, answer his emails and make a special trip to the Post office next week all for £2.30 to post his item. My feedback is 242 and 100% so I am not new to selling. I am living on £400 mat cover a month (my choice) and I dont bid on anything just now because I dont have the money.

Does this mean that if I state payment required in 3 days for future listings, is this legal so to speak Ebay wise or are people who put that in their listing not got a leg to stand on if people dont pay within 3 days?

Ebay allow 7 days for payment, and it doesn't matter what you put in your auctions as you can't alter that. You are perfectly able to leave negative feedback on day 3 if you wish, but all that will happen is that you will get negative feedback in return which will harm your future sales. Also a seller that routinely negs on day 3 is going to have buyers running a mile.

If you can't wait a week for payment then it may be worth considering not listing until your time and circumstances allow you to do so. For such small amounts it really isn't worth the grief and the pressure.

    I agree with soolin

Write back to him stipulating that wating the extra few days is fine but Payment will be expected by 7 days after the end of the auction in accordance with e bay rules, and that he is expected to complete the deal.

Don't make any threats of negative feedback etc, just be firm but polite.

    Sounds about right to me.
He needs to wait for payday to pay for something thats £2.30?
If you don't understand that, lucky you. I've been that skint. Believe me, it's quite possible! The buyer may have thought he was able to pay, but then checked his bank account or found he had unexpected expenses and realised he was short. Was it a Paypal only auction? If I were in the buyer's position and cheque payment were acceptable, I'd be inclined to post a cheque 2nd class today, so that by the time it was cashed, the money would be in the bank to cover it.
