The London Planetarium in Baker Street is closing down for refurbishment for six weeks from 7 May, so just for this week (until Sunday 30 April) it's offering free entry for all visitors.
Opening hours are 10.30am to 6pm
Remember it's also possible to grab 2for1 entry to Madam Tussards which is next door; all you need is a valid train ticket for that day. For more read 2 for 1 London Attraction Loophole.
The Sad Bit:
While the planetarium isn't closing completely, reports are it will also be used to show films about celebrities and only a little time will be dedicated to the real stars!
The Planetarium is owned by the Tussards group. For me, closing a great educational establishment for yet more celebrity focus is very sad. Perhaps lots of people turning up in the last week will grant the Planetarium a reprieve. For more details on what's happening read this Times article, (thanks to blagalot for the article link.)

Its only closing for refurbishment for six weeks in May and June, during which the interior will be redesigned with a new look for 2006. The redesign will also include a new cinema experience...

Flabbergasted and dismayed at this really bad news. How can brilliance like the stars in the sky be swapped for rubbishy bloody celebrity. I hate this damn celebrity culture, and people are missing out on something brilliant here. Tussards have probably put loads of money into the Planetarium but whats the use if they are gonna take it away from children?!!?0

At least you can see it free - we wanted to go last year but had to pay for Madame Tussauds as well - we were gutted to find you can no longer buy tickets just for the Planetarium; and we had to watch a Brad Pitt Alexander clip for a tortureous 15 minutes! The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0

So instead of kids seeing the wonder of a clear night sky and the wonder of the universe they get to see morons like Chantelle saying "Oh My God" a million times. Enough to make you weep. :mad:0

Yup, this is your last chance to see the Planetarium show. After refurbishment they will be showing a celebrity show instead. Outrageous!!!!
Can anyone who has been recently tell me how long (duration) the planetarium show is these days?0 -
I wanted to go, but wasn't interested in Tussauds.
I was told I couldn't go in separately. I'd have had to pay the extortionate amount for the Waxworks THEN pay for the Planetarium on top!
Has anyone checked this offer to make sure you don't have to pay for the waxworks to get in free?0 -
Good news - The Royal Observatory in Greenwich is building a new Planetarium
check out the details here enter here
It's due to open in 2007
Hurrah!! :T0
