HELP!!!!! - No turn right offence 6 times in 1 week penalty - facing a massive fine!!

Dropped my son off to speach & language school 2 weeks ago and I failed to follow the no turn right sign except for busses.

I only noticed it after committing this offense 6 times. I now face £60 > £120 fine each!!! Starting from £360 going upto £720 if I don't pay soon!!!!!

I am on disability living allowance & incapacity benefit. I am bipolar - manic depression. I only mention this because this info may help me to reduce my fine.

Is there anyway that I can reduce my fine so that I only pay for the offense once? I have never appealed an offense so don't know how to do it and on what grounds I can appeal on.

These are absolute offences and so ,in theory, there are no grounds for appeal or mitigation.

Effectively ,you drove without due care and attention but rather than prosecute you, they are kindly giving you fixed penalty type tickets.

There are some grounds in that you weren't notified that you were commiting an offence first and so didn't realise you were doing it.

A friend of mine got off paying two speeding tickets for the same stretch of road that way. Saying that if a real police officer had stopped him he would have slowed down (crafty!)

If I make an appeal would my fine go upto a total of £720?
    If I pay now it's £360.

I am so stressed about this.

Normally you cannot appeal until the 28 days is up, however I think that in the event of an unsuccesful appeal the cost is reset to the reduced amount.

    Nonsense.

An immediate formal appeal is required inside the 28 day period for moving traffic contraventions.

OP needs to calm down and start by saying which Council, location, etc. All the obviously required info or no accurate help can be given.

Pics of signage also. Show ALL of the PCN as well.

On the matter of 5 being waived -- yes possible for the reason someone described. Notably Islington have done this.
Otherwise it makes a mockery of the 'educational' element of issuing a PCN. Not a legal point but a common sense one.

    What is PCN?

The signal was in plain view just below the traffic light. I just did not notice it. I have travelled this way before a few years ago and was not away that the sign had gone. I live in London - Middlesex

If you can't afford the fine.. don't do the crime.

    Seriously... SIX times??

Best thing to do is to pay what you owe now before it goes up (and be grateful you've got away lightly with such poor driving skill) then make up for the cash shortfall by not buying any petrol for the next month or two and taking the bus instead.

I'd suggest that you pay up and don't look for excuses - you presumably could end up facing six loads of points if it goes to court

  • Yes, obviously you didn't notice you couldn't turn that way or you wouldn't have kept doing it.
    Ignore nasty comments on here.
If it were me I would be phoning the number on the correspondence and asking what their procedure is to appeal.
Anyone with common sense would realise you didn't see the sign to keep doing it over and over.
Good luck in sorting it out.
