well ive just been to the JobCentre and it seems they could really care less what I do so thats fine by me

Yep the majority of jobcentre staff couldnt give a fig if your looking for work, or helping you get back in to work, wether you get a job or not doesnt affect them in any way. There may be the odd one you come across that will go out of their way and help but they are few and far between.
they try and look helpful the first few times you sign on then its just sign your book, put your payment through (some cant even manage to get that right) and then tell you to p**s off.
ive got a 13 week interview next week and they have booked it for 5pm the letter says it lasts an hour, which is strange, i thought they clocked off at 5, thats when i see the security guards shutting the doors when im around town.

A big gap in your CV will cause you more problems that taking a job you do not particularly like. If you are unemployed and reliant on benefits I do not see that you can afford to be picky.

sorry, but no. We're in a recession, it is to be expected that people will have gaps on their CVs at this time

Just about sums up the mentality of these people who make up some of these job seeker allowance rules.

Just remember. You may have to go to 'a' job interview to continue receiving JSA but only 'you' can secure the job!
If your a brain surgeon and they send you for an interview in Tesco's, turning up unshaven, unwashed and smelling of booze will not help you get the job. ;-)

    Just my tuppence worth!
  • I'm suprised you can claim JSA after being self-employed unless it's income based. If you turn down suitable work (or 'scupper' your interview - people aren't daft and can see that you're not either!) and the jobcentre are informed, then they can stop your benefits. You can claim a hardship payment if they do this but it's minimal. To be fair, beggars can't be choosers & it's tough trying to get a job full stop, no matter something 'decent'.

Don't forget, although they might be self employed recently you can get contribution based JSA if you have paid enough NI. You can opt to pay enhanced NI even if self employed (if memory serves correctly).

Good point. If you pay class 2 NI contributions then I don't think you get anything....a bit wrong really!

You can't pay for enhanced NICs if you are self employed in order to get CBJSA.

Class 3 which are voluntary qualify someone for their SP and bereavement benefits

Class 4 (self employed conts) have no link to benefits.
