hiya wasps seem to be popular topic and I also have a problem. The nest has gone but have a few wasps still. I am trying a glass wasp trap which you hang on trees and wonder what is the best sticky stuff to put in it.

has anyone used one and if so what do you find is the best stuff? Ta

Honey & water is as good as anything, as is strawberry jam. Jam ferments, but by then you'll have a pretty nasty mess in there anyway.

I don't think they are fussy about brands!:D

Take a plastic bottle. Cut about 2/3rds of the way up, all around.

Take the top off the bottle, turn the top half upside down and place in the bottom part. Put sweet stuff in the bottom part.

The wasps will crawl in but won't be able to find their way back out and will stay trapped.

i think waps like meat rather, than sweet stuff - ive heard crispy bacon is good for attracting them

Alternative method - as used for many years by my dad. Take jam jar with lid. Put some jam with water in jar. Make hole in lid large enough for a wasp to get in. Put lid back on. Wire up the jar so it can hang in your fruit tree. The wasps get in but can't get out. I'm going to try it this year as the wasps are showing far too much interest in the pear tree.
  • I was in Exeter Poundstretcher last Saturday and my sister bought a lovely coloured glass bee/wasp trap for ..... a £1. Not sure whether its trapped any yet but it looked lovely hung in the shrubs.

well my wasp trap was a pound from poundland and it's one of the attractive glass ones. Thanks for the jam suggestion it has already caught about 50!!!

Well worth a quid and it looks pretty in the tree, most of the wasps have died already. Recommended to all.
