Porting advice please!
I'm going to change from contract Vodafone to PAYG T-mobile. I already have the SIM card for Tesco PAYG mobile. This is going to save me so much money as I rarely use my phone and am wasting so much money in line rental that I don't need.
To transfer my existing number to Tesco mobile, Tesco say it takes approx 5 days. I always thought it took several weeks.
Do I go ahead and cancel my Vodafone contract (have to give one month's notice) and than ask to get my number ported across in the last week of my contract? Or should I ask to get the number ported before I cancel?
I'd be really grateful if someone could give me some advice as I've no experience of porting. I did post a few days ago but got no replies

Hi
i gave orange 30days notice to cancel and asked for the PAC at the same time
it usually takes 5-7 working days so join the other company in the last 8-10 days of your notice period
joined O2 gave them PAC O2 confirmed the porting date i wanted it to be 14/03/06(the date orange 30 day expired)but they could do it on 19/03/06 because of easter holidays i think
was a bit just in case orange charge me a full months line rental but i was told by CPW (where i got the O2 from) that i will only be charged the extra days and thats what orange didHonesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
you are on!
if i had known then what i know now!
a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -
Bear in mind that if you leave it too late the port wont work. Once the old account is actually terminated e.g. on the 30th day of the notice period, the number is lost forever. So you have to get your port in before that happens.0

You should give notice and get the code on the same day.
I cancelled my orange contract 3 weeks ago. I rung up for my code today and they said they would have to reactivate the account (meaning I would have to pay for one month) and then they would give me the code0
