Fed up with HSBC can I close account but still claim?

Dear Forumers,

HSBC aren't that great, so I've switched. I'd now like to close this account. If I close it are my claims to obtain my unfair bank charges still applicable.

I've tried to contact Citizens Advice but they're not too sure

Thanks

Skylight :o

If the account is in the black or £0.00 why close it?

Im not quite sure on the closed account/reclaim however again just rip up the card and still and wait until the test case etc. is over. That's what I would do!

Was just wondering something very similar.

I have been reclaiming my OH's charges from Natwest for him and we have just received a letter saying that his hardship claim has been accepted and to sit back and wait for an offer :j.

However, his account has been closed for a couple of years......Will they just pay it by cheque?

    Many thanks.

PS - Anybody with experience of this happening have an idea of how long they take to come back with an offer (and how well they may 'cough up') - I'm so impatient, but we also have loadsa his priority debts to sort out so this is coming as such a blessing - we're currently in the process of moving in together.

  • Thanks for your help. Wanted to close the account as they charge me £29 per month for the privalidge of having a "bank account plus" with them.

Ask them to downgrade to a non fee paying account.

Providing he owes no money whatsoever to the bank then yes I would expect them to pay by cheque.

HSBC do not force you to open a fee paying account because they offer a current account or current advance which are non -fee paying accounts and you could have said no to the fee paying account.

I have been a HSBC customer for a few years and have never any problems with them or charges.
