Wedding Gift List - whattogive.com

Has anyone on here used
https://www.whattogive.com/
either to host their gift list or bought from it?

We have to decide within a week or two who to have our list with. Wrapit have been very impressive so far but OH is worried after the Gift Registry went under a couple of years back, plus they don't really have shops. So far their customer service has been excellant.

John Lewis was our other option but their customer service has not been good and has really put us off.

What to give seems a reasonable compromise and allows guests to go and source the gift from other places, so they can take advantage of bargains.

Would be interested in any comments.

Thanks :D

There's a Wrapit shop in Birmingham, if that's of any reassurance to you.

Thanks Katie. There is one near us, but they are actually all franchises through the shops I believe.

Also, we have seen things in various shops that we would like and we can't get them all in either Wrapit or JL - https://www.whattogive.com might be the solution, but before we go with it I wondered if anyone had any feedback.

I'm struggling with the same problem at the moment (though, to be honest, it is rather a nice predicament to be in). I'd really like a particular brand of sewing machine which neither john lewis nor wrapit run. We met with a wrappit representative at the National Wedding Show, and I asked her about going under, she said that the company in question had been small, that wrapit was an expanding company and there was little danger of them going under.

I agree that I would like to give guests the opportunity to buy the present from wherever they get the best bargain but i don't think many people will actually take advantage of that, I think my lot would prefer the ease of use that comes with a department store list.

Wrapit does pride itself on customer service, particularly for non-internet using guests, they will take telephone orders and send out a printed version of the list - with pictures so you can see what you are buying (a definite minus point for John Lewis). They also have a price promise, but only against JL. JL upholds it's never knowingly undersold promise for gift lists.

We had a JL list when we got married last year. One of the advantages for us of a department store list was that all the gifts got delivered, after we got back from the honeymoon (obviously the guests could have bought them in a JL shop and brought them to the wedding, but none chose to do this). We married where my parents lived, and had just moved into our house in a different city. It wouldn't have been that easy to transport all the gifts back ourselves (we had a car full with our wedding clothes and the off list gifts brought to the reception anyway), and we were happier with them not being in an empty house while we were away.
We found the JL customer service excellent.

We were discussing it over dinner tonight and the main downside we see is that any presents will be there at the wedding, so we have the problem of ensuring they are all safely stored, that the card is attached to the present to ensure you know who to thank etc.

Think we might be giving whattogive a try though, particularly as you can also link it up to another gift list (or mutiple gift lists if you want)

Can't help with whattogive but we are going with Debenhams as they give you a £50 gift card when you register your list. Haven't done mine yet as it needs to be done at the earliest 3 months before wedding so is a bit soon for us. I got the tip from moneysavers though and it seems it is worth registering a list as even if all your guests don't buy from Debenhams you still get the £50 :D
I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.
  • My husband and I used it - about a year or so back. Worked well for us. We did have people bring gifts to the reception - although some people just sent us cheques. Didn't cause a problem where we were - the venue had a room set aside for it which was just off the reception so covered by their CCTV.

Main reason was precisely because we were worried about the companies that had gone under. WhatToGive.com seemed simple and didn't take any money - from us or our guests.

Can I ask - did you have the typical wedding presents on there, or did you have other things like a dining table people could make a contribution towards (then they give you a cheque / vouchers for that I believe) or things like honeymoon experiences?

    Thanks for your feedback

I think quality of service from John Lewis really depends on which store you are using, we had a terrible experience with them when we used them for our gift list see this thread but others on this same thread have had a really good experience. We used John Lewis Sheffield.
