Cheaper text messages to Europe via Vodafone handset?

I am on Vodafone and they charge 25p to send a text to Europe and will not include it in free text allowances. I thought this would go down due to the new EU mobile cost cutting rules, but Vodafone are keeping their charges high.
Is there a cheaper way of sending texts from my handset and for the receiver to see that the message comes from my number? I know that some services are available from the internet, but they seem to need a PC or come from any other number other than mine.
