think system restores is your best bet as espresso advised. Will remove all that he messed up as obviously he didn't know what he was doing!

Does sound to me like he has installed a firewall but not configured it correctly so is blocking legitimate internet applications like your browser and messenger

The task bar changing colour may be able to be fixed by doing the following

right click on a blank part of the desktop
    left click properties
    select the appearance tab
under windows and buttons select xp style
check colour scheme colour is blue
click apply then ok and hopefully that should fix it

error repair pro is a registry cleaner, by uninstalling the program you can not restore what it removed.
winrar362 < is a archiver, like winzip, to extract files downloaded, aka file extensions with .rar, .zip, .7z and others.

can you post a list of programs installed. so we can tell you which ones to remove ?
open add/remove and then take a screenshot with the screen maxed out.
You should be able to use a system info tool like everest home (freeware) to list the software, it also tells you about your system.
http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html everest home edition. click on Report, next, custom selection, look down till you see software, click the > button, and tick Installed programs, click next, plain txt, and then finish, give it a filename of your choice.
then paste the contents of it here. NO serials will be posted.

if your husbands friend downloaded hijackthis, malwarebytes< MBam-install.exe leave these, they are probably the only good thing he downloaded.

Can you download a program on your sons laptop and transfer it over to your machine using a flashdrive/CD etc?

The problem is that we can't see what's on your machine, so if you could download HiJackThis from here and then run it on your machine, save the log file and then post the log back in a reply on here it would help.

can you use windows restore to go back to before your bf friend looked at it < this should get the system working
    if no,
does you computer come with restore cd, or a recovery disc, or a hidden partition.
this would take it back to the day you bought it,
What is the make and model of the computer, Make would be on the case itself, aka DELL, HP, ACER, HI-Grade etc

Why would she want to do that and lose all data, pictures mail etc?

It's not necessary to go back to day one!

Computer is not working, she can not get online,
and she wont loose any data, if she burns all mp3's, photo's and other files she has created, downloaded before she does the recovery.

    3rd option, windows recovery,
have you got a windows cd for the os that is installed
4th, 1st try this one, open a command prompt, type in SFC /scannow press enter, this will scan and replace any windows files that have been changed, none of your personal files will be deleted. when its finished reboot and try to get online.
