I have had experience with these recorders and in my personal opinion its KACK
The remote is really wide and its slow and sluggish to respond
It is DivX compliant played Divx fine, but when i played Xvid it stopped every 5 minutes or so and started to get really frustrating.
The recording quality on DVD is fine and i cant complain about that because its pretty much bob on but when ur recording u do get a blue bar accross the top which doesnt go off at all while recording.
My honest opinion:
Do not gamble on this DVD recorder , Either Get a different one :P
Or save up a tad more and get a Better one
I returned my technika after a day, I thinks its crap, expected the divx to be more like the SONIC dvd player posted on here, But its nothing like it
And the remote started to pee me off aswell.
Hope u listen to me and not ur temptations0 -
I've had one since Jan and it's worked fine. I must have done 40-50 DVDs
Whilst I agree with many of the comments, I couldn't find anything better...
DVD quality is fine esp on SP (2 hour, full res), and it has RGB in for recording, as well as RGB passthru.
You can remove the banner by simply pressing "display"
Any Q feel free to ask. What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
so why not buy do 40-50 dvds and when it breaks return for refund as you not doing any fraud are you? I see people like my brother who keeps his phone in plastic bag so it wont get scratched and afer a year he throws it about whats the point if it breaks he cant take it back.
So use your gadgets for year without a wory then if it breaks return or exchange.

FWIW this DVD recorder is a re-badged Yamada 8400x. Ive had the Yamada version for about 6 months now and IMHO it's very good (for the money).
The remote is ugly and I sometimes struggle to find the right buttons for it (i.e. Timer vs Prog) etc. But considering what you are paying for it, it's a very capable device, a Divx player alone will typically cost over £30! It also hasn't mungled / missed a recording yet which is more than I can say for most PVRs currently out there.
There is an alternative firmware for it from Blu Sens:
http://www.blu-sens.com/descargas.php?tipo=Firmware&descarga=40
which adds PDC and allows you to play Divx off a USB device (memory stick or external HDD).
* WARNING* Firmware is made by another manufacturer so will invalidate your warranty.
This means I can download an episode of something I've forgotten to record i.e. Dr Who, and watch it (via my 1GB usb stick) without the hassle of burning it to CD / DVD - excellent!
There's a Yamada discussion forum which has some additional information on the recorder and it's shortfalls:

Wow that's it you sold it to me.....the firmware update allowing mpeg4 download to a memory stick is amazing. I can record stuff then put it on my sony ericcson k750 mobile 1gb memory stick and watch anywhere without running it through a codec on a laptop......that is a cool feature!0 -
Bought one Nov 05,great machine, read booklet well and check out the thread on it Nov/Dec 05,some excellent tips. Bought it for £80,well worth the reduced price.0

Has anybody actually used this on the Technika as opposed to the Yamada? From my limited knowledge of Spanish it appears that they are saying that the firmware should only be applied to certain model numbers - none of which appear to relate to the Technika. I did think about trying one of those web translation sites, but the results obtained from those are usually hilarious rather than useful!
I'm very tempted though..........0
