Why cant I have a fixed sepnding limit?

Have brought my daughter a mobile phone for her 18th birthday and have said I will pay her contract for a year as part of her present.

She has 1200 mins, unlimited text and 500mb internet.

Didn't think it would be a problem asking Orange to put a block on her using over her prepaid limit but apparently such a thing doesn't exist?

I bet if the phone was stolen and someone ran up 3k's worth of overseas calls Orange would be the first to complain and say I should pay it?

Makes no sense to me, surely in this day and age, someone stopping themselves spending over a certain amount should be a simple matter of a click of a button somewhere?

How about giving us advice on how to remove ourselves from any part of

  • Obviously a bit late now but with T-mobile you can fix it. Not really sure how it works as I only signed up today but obviously something to bare in mind for next year.

Thats how they make extra money by people going over their allowances.
Businesses are only out there for money .

That allowance is generous... but if shes a heavy web user, she better watch out for that.

You can call 150 for a check up on her usage, but i've found that to be a little slow at updating. The online account is pretty good for me.

    Sorry to be cynical. :o

Orange have never offered to monitor your usage, asking here calling them or asking in an Orange shop would have told you that.

It pays to research a purchase before you buy rather than after.
  • As others have said the only network to offer this is T-mobile. They offer plans where you get a fixed amount of minutes and texts and once they have been used you need to top up to make additional calls and texts.

I bet if the phone was stolen and someone ran up 3k's worth of overseas calls Orange would be the first to complain and say I should pay it?

Orange wouldn't be complaining but they would say you should pay for it, and they would be right. With contracts the owner is liable for all calls/texts etc made from the simcard until it has been reported as stolen or lost to the service provider.

Seeing as it will be your daughter that is using the contract it would probably be a good idea to get a password set up with orange so that if it is lost/stolen she can report it to them ASAP, thus avoiding a huge bill.

not necessarily, you can go into quite a large debit with PAYG also, admittedly not as much debt potential as contract, But if your a low user it`s quite a comparative amount.
