What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • Years ago something went wrong on my dad's 20 year old Fiesta which made it uneconomical to repair, put it on ebay as spares or repairs, it sold for £20.01 lol and the winning bidder did a 500 mile round trip for collection :)

what is the registration of the car. might be worth quite a bit on its own even once they've broken the car up for parts?

if he has tradeplates he can drive without RFL or MOT as he is a motor trader and may be taking it to an mot station (his own)
I don't think I'd be prepared to travel 400 miles with a set of trade plates in the hope that a vehicle with no tax or MOT and described as 'for parts' would be drivable, let alone roadworthy.

Trade plates or otherwise, on the way to a pre-booked MOT or otherwise, the vehicle must be in a roadworthy condition if it is to be taken on a public highway.

I think I'd either want to acertain the condition of the vehicle with some certainty beforehand or otherwise arrange a transporter ... which won't be cheap.

    No hes coming himself
So he's been in touch following winning?

Surely he would have been keen to set up a mutaully agreeable date to collect the item if he was a bona fide buyer? As you stated, cash on collection, so he'll pay on collection ... if he ever does collect.

Have phoned DVLA and according to them he can only drive it away if he has a MOT or he is on his way to a prebooked local MOT station--not 400 miles away !!
