help please for new seller on ebay

I currently have an item for sale on ebay. Looking at other peoples adverts they mention for people to pay cash on pick up is that the best way do do things? I havnt put this on my advert.
others have asked for £100 non returnable deposit?? why do they do this?

What happens when the bidding finnishes? how long does it take untill you get the money?

should i look out for any problems?

Thanks for any help you can give x

Your post is a little too vague!

    What is it you're selling?

If it's a huge object for collection only, then it's advisable to ask for cash on collection, otherwise the buyer could claim they didn't receive it, and paypal will ask you for a tracking number...

Asking for a deposit would hint you are selling a car maybe???

if they pay by paypal, the payment will go through instantly when they pay.

Ebay rules mean you have to offer paypal, but if someone pays by paypal, I would refund them and ask if they will pay cash on collection, because that way you won't end up out of pocket.

If they insist on paypal, then you should then insist on a courier, at their expense...!

You cant do that if you've listed as collection only!

True, but you can try... :D

At the very least I would send them a receipt via tracked delivery on the day they pick it up, so at least there's a tracking number! Maybe even take a sneaky photo of them picking the item up and enclose a copy with the receipt...

Chances are they are honest, but most honest buyers would then accept cash on collection.

Be extremely concerned over any buyer who insists on paying by PayPal for an item they intend to collect.

I know if I am making the effort to collect any item, I prefer to let go of my money as & when I have verified the integrity of the item.

I am aware paypal offers buyer protection, but better the money in my pocket than in anyone elses until the item is verified.

Unfortunately, you could get the Quuen to sign your receipt, and it would count for nothing with PP.

    S'gotta be proof of delivery.

    Thanks all,

so its definately best to say cash on pick up then they can veiw it and if not happy then they dont have to buy it?
That doesnt bother me as i am not in a rush to sell and i have no worries about its quality etc in fact i would be glad if it didnt go!! but no point in it sitting in the drive and not being used as i have no tow bar anymore!! not very MSE!!

I noticed on one add that someone asked for 100 by pay pal then the rest on collection is that a good idea?
