Correct NonGeographicalMan, this is the email I recieved:

"I am really sorry to learn you did not receive any confirmation about our renewal process. I am happy to cancel any held to term charges as a one off but must inform you that the 12 month renewal contract will take place next year if you are still a BT customer."

Good to hear that you are now sorted. It unfortunately says a lot about BT and the lengths that you have to go to to get simple issues resolved now. The BT Company Representative in post #10 was not at all interested in trying to resolve this issue and did not even bother to return to this thread.
