I posted recently about a problem with an Acer monitor going into hibernation,(or is it standby?) and refusing to wake up...
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=184894
I took the monitor back to the shop yesterday and they suggested it may be a problem with the Power Options settings and to try different configurations. This is what I have them set at just now, (I think these must be the default settings as as I dont remember ever changing them!).
XP Home
Power Schemes Tab
Power schemes - Always on
Turn off monitor - After 20 mins
Turn off hard disks - Never
System standby - Never
System hibernates - Never *
Hibernate Tab
Enable hibernation - Box ticked *
* Is there a conflict here...?
Just wondered what settings other people use and what would be good to use?
Many thanks

No there's no conflict there.
Out of interest if you're pc goes on standby and you press a key/shake the mouse does it wake up?I'm better off without you.0 -

No, that's the problem...but it doesn't happen every time just sometimes. If I connect up my old monitor I don't ever have the problem.....Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly!0 -
Just to be clear with this to help find a solution, you know that the monitor going on standby is different to the pc itself going on stand by right?I'm better off without you.0

The way things have been working til the last couple of weeks and this stupid problem started - just the monitor went on standby...I need the PC to be running.
Thanks for trying to help.Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly!0 -
Just read your original post and answered my questions. Have you downloaded the latest windows updates?
Could also try connecting the monitor to the on-board vga adapter rather than the graphics card and see if the monitor comes out of stand by from there.I'm better off without you.0 -
take the tick out of the hibernation box, it will free up some disk space if nothing else..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Have all the relevant updates but not SP2...I did install SP2 but it caused probs with a couple of progs so I uninstalled it...(guess I will have to have another go and sort it out soon!)
Sorry but I wouldn't know how to connect the monitor to the VGA adapter...not very techie I'm afraid!!!Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly!0 -
Sorry i'll try to be more clear.
Some motherboards have a on-board plug for the monitor as opposed to connecting to the plug on the graphics card, which is where your monitor is plugged into at the moment. So, if you do have a onboard plug for the monitor try using that.I'm better off without you.0
