I've had a pretty good experience with them. They use the T-Mobile network, so their coverage is the same. Where I live/work, I tend to find a slightly better signal with O2 & Vodafone, but I've always found Virgin & Vodafone's customer service better than O2's (and don't even get me started on the appalling level of T-Mobile's customer dis-service!)
Not much choice of phones, eh?! Just buy whatever phone you want, get it unlocked (if necessary) and you can just get the SIM from Virgin. I got a nearly-new Samsung U100 on eBay, which was virtually impossible to get with a SIM/contract.
P.S. Oh, and Virgin's charge just 30p for the first 25MB of data each day, which might be handy if you ever need network access (for web browsing, downloading maps, etc.)0 -
I've just switched to them from an Orange PAYG (was putting like £25 a month on it cos I do tend to use a lot of data calls to check email etc)... switched to an £18 a month, 100 minutes, 500 texts, unlimited (subject to fair use etc etc etc) data and got a Nokia E63 free on them. Apart from the usual joys of the Virgin Indian call centre which I know and love from having their phone, net and TV... no real problems as of yet - coverage decent enough, the phone I picked does exactly what I want from it, first bill just come through by text with no issues and I can monitor my useage online quite easily which I like.
Coverage checker shows it as OK in my house (it is) and hit and miss at my parents (but every network is - hence one of them wanting to pay her to put a phone mast in her garden at one point)Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
I have a SIM only deal with Virgin. £25 pm, 700 mins, unlimited texts , unlimited data and unlimited calls to other Virgin mobiles. (Im with Virgin media) 30 day rolling contract which is great! Customer service so far seems good.0

Virgin was good until they changed the T&Cs for this september.
Also, from 22 September 2009, the first minute of any calls you make to UK landlines or UK mobile networks (including mobiles on Virgin Media) will be charged differently. This means that if your call lasts less than one minute, a full one minute will be deducted from your allowance of minutes. Or, if you’ve used your allowance up that month, you will be charged for one minute. After that first minute of each call, you’ll be charged the remaining cost of your call per second. All other call types in the UK will continue to be billed the same as they are now.
I was on the £8.50 = 100mins 100texts so it was a bad deal for me. Cancelled contract with a year to go and moved to 3 network for 6months contract with a new £90 phone, mix n match 300, 300 3-3 mins for £10 a month after quidco/topcashback £32.50.0
