Don't forget - if you put a "no cold callers" sign on your door, energy companies must respect it and not disturb you:

About a month ago a man came to my door to get me to change my supplier from nPower to Scottish Power. A few days after he left, I had an uneasy feeling and began to read through the tariff book that he had seemingly forgotten on my kitchen unit.
There I found that instead of quoting me the correct rate for electricity for my area (Area 17 Scottish Hydro - 17.011p for 1st 225kwh 11.880p thereafter) he used the tariffs for Eastern (Area 10 - 15.846p and 10.378p respectively).
As soon as I received the "Sorry You're Leaving Us" letter from nPower, I telephoned to stop the switch. However, I was informed that I could not stop the move to Scottish Power - for at least 28 days but would be able to come back to nPower after this time. In addition, I would not be able to return to my erstwhile tariff SOL20 - as nPower was now on SOL22 - Unless - I was informed that I could get Scottish Power to agree that this had been an "Erroneous Transfer".
I telephoned Scottish Power right away. The initial person that I spoke to listened to my initial complaint and offered even further information - apparently the rep had put me on the capped rate, and although he had informed me that signing with him would cut my monthly bills by £20 per month, he should have told me that it would INCREASE my bills by £28 per month. A whopping £48 per month difference.
She put me through to complaints...
There I spoke to Kirsty - who informed me that although she had no difficulty in accepting the rep had not behaved honestly she would not determine this to be an Erroneous Transfer. In addition - her system was down at the moment so she would not be able to do anything for me. She said that she would phone back in three or four days but I was much too late for this to be considered an Erroneous Transfer. Additionally, I would have to be with Scottish Power for 28 days after which I could transfer back to nPower (although I would still miss the SOL20 tariff that I had been on). She also said that there would be a £20 fine per fuel for leaving Scottish Power.
I have re:telephoned nPower and have signed back with them - as I do not wish to purchase energy from a company that lies to garner customers.0 -

Why did you not use your notice of right to cancel that he also left you.

Why did you not telephone SP when you received there welcome letter you have 7 working days from the date you received the letter to do so this would have arrived before you recieved Sorry You're Leaving U letter.
Why phone NPower to take you back on there new tarrif?

Are you sure they said it was a capped rate?
As there capped prices are (Area 17 Scottish Hydro - 20.952p for 1st 225kwh 12.123p thereafter) tariffs for Eastern (Area 10 - 19.763p and 10.590p respectively).
Where do you get the £48?

SP MAYapply a cancellation charge inclusive of vat of £30.64 for electricity not a fine of £20 npower do the same on some of there products.
