Problem is no sound. Have tried to reinstall but get the following error message "The Win16 subsystem was unable to enter Protected Mode. DOSX.EXE must be in your AUTOEXEC.NT and present in your PATH"
Means nothing to me !! anybody any ideas how to get my sound up and running again???

Hi, thanks for the suggestions.
Have tried a number of restore points but keep getting notified that the time I want to restore to cannot be restored.
Will have to move onto the next suggestion!Titch0 -
copying the config.nt and autoexec.nt from the repair directory might help?
in future, create a manual restore point before doing any drastic reconfigs, as it makes going back much easier.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Did you use the Soundblaster Audigy driver CD or did you let Windows install it for you?I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0

Try here:-

They also have their own forum for soundblaster cards:-

if you type cmd into your run box will it let you go into Dos mode?
The error you're getting, like albertross mentions, seems like it can't get out to Dos mode to install the drivers.0 -
hi folks,
tahnks for the help so far. However, I am still soundless ! Do' think Audigy is still supported by creative. Also yes, when putting cmd into run, I do get the DOS prompt. But still struggling !Titch0 -
Think I probably now need to reinstall my soundcard. Any ideas on how to do it would be welcomed !Titch0

This is how to get there in XP
1) Start
2) Control panel
3) System folder
4) Hardware tab
5) Device Manager
6) Sound, video, game controllers
7) Creative audio PCI (Right mouse click)
8) Uninstall
9) Shutdown/Restart
10) Cross fingers
11) Restart, then windows should find your ‘new’ soundcard
Don't be disappointed if it takes you back to exactly the same point (errors) you started with!I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0
