Dog Grooming salons v mobile vans

  • Hi all

I was on here looking for info on sat navs and got side tracked! I own and run a mobile dog grooming van. They may be a bit more expensive than a salon but this is because it is a more convenient service for the owner and saves time and fuel costs in dropping the dog off and collecting it. As someone else said, many salons do charge for collection and delivery. There are also benefits to be had if the dog is nervous around other dogs as it will be on its own with the groomer. It is great for people that do not have their own transport or are not mobile. There is also the fact that many folks do not like their bathrooms being messed up if they try and bath Fido themselves or the dog may just be too big to get in the bath! One other benefit that is very important to owners is that the dog is dried by hand and not in a cage like many salons do. I am also flexible on the time of appointments and am happy to go when customers have finished work.

Overall, the prices are not that much more that salons. However, I hear from a lot of customers that many salons will charge very high prices for doing big dogs (eg Alsations) whereas I love big dogs and am very competitive!

Benson, as a guide to help you - if your dogs are border collie type crosses (medium size), I would charge £27 per dog for a really good brush out to get rid of the dead undercoat, a shampoo/condition, drying and nail trim. If they needed a bit of trimming ie feathers/bloomers/feet, I would charge £5 per dog for this. You would also find that the shedding would be reduced dramatically! Your quote of £90 does sound a bit steep to me! However, I have found that there can be a big difference
regionally. Not sure where you are.

A couple more examples of my prices are a Lab wash, dry, brushout etc - £32. Westie full clip and wash - £28. Staffy wash - £19. Yorkie full clip/wash £25.

I am very busy and everyone I visit loves the service! Hope I have been of some help to you!

Hiya, some great info there! Can I just ask about the part of your post that i've highlighted & why some don't like their Dog/s dried in a cage? I ask because mine is dried in one & I don't know a thing about Grooming so was thinking how good it was until now, when i'm wondering. I know at Hydro they only dry by hand & she's always miserable after, she doesn't like being cold

I'd consider the mobile Groomer's but ours is only a 10 minute walk away & she has just a small extension on the back of the house, no doors into the house just the one to the yard & no other Dogs are ever there, you can hear hers bark when you arrive but they don't come out. I've been happy with the service & Chaya seems happy to go, but should I ask her to hand dry?

I pay £23 for our CKCS which includes a bath, ear clean, fur and nail clipping and his bottom glands being cleaned out - bargain as I don't have to do it! Im in South Wales and I take him to the salon and they take 2-3 hours.
