panasonic breadmaker not mixing properly

  • Even if you didn't buy an extended warranty, there will still be some kind of warranty. I take it's not a Panasonic (as the booklet doesn't use oz), I would recommend returning it if you can and get a Pannie instead, they are the best :)
The order you put the ingredients in is also very important

It is a Panasonic actually, it's a SD-YD250. Another person said that their panasonic manual didn't come with that option either... or dry milk. I'm really confused by this because my manual and bread maker machine match up but following it seems to not be working.
Also, what do you mean by the order of the ingredients? Our manual says we should mix all the dry and then the water but is there another more specific way it needs to be added?

Where did you buy it? Sounds like the USA version of the machine. I don't know if this makes a difference in terms of warranty.

I think YD stands for yeast dispenser, meaning that you don't need to worry about the order in which you put the ingredients in as the yeast goes in the dispenser.
For UK models, normally you have to put the yeast first, then flour and sugar/salt/water on top. Milk powder was an ingredient in older models, it's no longer used.

I remember reading that sometimes you can get a bad batch of flour, with lower gluten, because of a bad harvest and even the same brand may give inconsistent results. I would try a different flour and also different programme.

At the back of your booklet there should be a section about troubleshooting, see if there is anything that seems to fit your problem.

Have you mixed up American measurements with UK measurements?
The UK pint is smaller and cups are different too.
  • I had a weirdly-shaped loaf today (though fully mixed). I have just read the thread and I think I have made all the mistakes possible,
-bread mix nearly 1 year out of date.
    -no extra water added.
    - no milk powder added.
-not cleaned paddle since last time.
    -water not added first.

Ah well, DH still ate it for his lunch, house smells good and I have just toasted some with butter and honey which was dense but delicious.:)

I have never cleaned my paddle at all! :D
  • Well, when I said I had not cleaned the paddle since last time, I did actually mean not at all!
DH did also mention that it was rather like the bread the mother in "About A Boy" film made that killed a duck when her son threw it for them. Cheek! DD who was on Skype with us when the comment was made found it most amusing.
Nobody here appreciates my delicious homemade bread offerings.

milk powder is optional, order of the ingredients shouldn't be too much of a problem if you have a yeast dispenser (if not then it's very important). 1 year out of date.... well that could be the problem.
Also are you using the right type of yeast? Make sure it says you can use it with bread machines.
