Migration Codes

I have reqwuested a migration code from my broadband ISP, V21, and they are requesting a 30 pounds administration charge for this.
Has anybody else heard of this charge, i.e. do all ISPs apply it.

Yes, some ISPs charge for MAC's. They are within their right's to do so, and it is specified in their T&C's.

16.8 In the event that V Two One agrees to you migrating your connection to an alternative provider, you must pay all the Charges due, up to and including the date of expiry of the Minimum Period, and you must pay a migration charge of £30.00 including VAT before V Two One will provide your Migration Authorisation Code.

There is an OfCom Code of Practice covering ADSL migrations - however it is only a voluntary code of practice, which V21 has not signed up to.


Unfortunately, if you wish to leave V21, you'll have to pay up the £30 if you want a seemless migration to another ISP. Otherwise, you'll find you may need to be pay up to £47 activation - plus the downtime of 5-10 working days.

Make sure you read the T&C's of your new ISP before you sign-up, so you are aware of any charges you may be faced with.
