Not a lot you can do most of the time on this one, I have been burnt a few times with the "unauthorised funds" issue, very annoying but as many posters have said Paypal favours buyers. Paypal is so linked into Ebay that any other form of electronic payment method doesn't stand a chance of getting the market share and sellers loose sales or a good selling price if they don't offer Paypal.

The Same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago.
I sent out a mobile phone £350.00 via SD.
There was a Charge back and I am out of pocket.
He even left me good feedback.
Pay pal should not be able to get away with that.0 -
tomstickland wrote:Is there any mileage in having a special Paypal bank account with no funds in it and keeping your Paypal balance low so that they can't chargeback money from your bank account?
There is a very good case for having 3 or more paypal accounts. One that accepts balance transfers one that accepts credit cards. and then one you can imediately transfer funds into from the other two. If the first and third account are basic acoounts only there is no fe for transfering money.
This can save not only paypal fees, (as you would declare account one as your auction account and say in the auction that it only accepts balance funding but if needing to pay by credit cards point to second account) but cause minimumal distruption if a charge back occurs.
Drawbacks would not work for large volume accounts, limited by the number of bank accounts you have and limited by the low withdrawal limits per month.

What is the point of writing to Paypal to complain when they keep stone walling me or twisting what I have complained about.
Apart from being ripped off via Paypal and received no help I lost hundreds of pounds.
My latest complaint is that i paid for items via Paypal, i was asked if i wanted to pay from my bank but i opted to pay by credit card for two items, however paypal still tried to take the money from my bank which incurred bank charges of £80.00 as the funds were not there, they then took it from the Credit Card.
My bank tell me that a Direct debit had been set up between paypal and Cahoot of which they have since cancelled bu Cahoot tell me its Paypal problem and Paypal state its nothing to do with them as there first preference is to take from my bank dispite me clicking the cred card option.
Paypal are taking the pxxx all the time when we complain and I for one is somewhat tired of it as when you use EBAY they have a certain monopoly, when I advised my buyers in the past that i wont accept Paypal due to previous problems with Paypal , Ebay then removed my listing because of this.
Can we get some weight behind a serious complaint against Paypal as I note others have not succeeded even after BBC Watchdog stepped in and failed.
I understand the FSA are not much help either and judging by what is happening with in the banking system regarding charges it seems the other Watchdogs are failing.Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

I think you should study the terms of the banks Direct Debit guarantee.COS wrote:My latest complaint is that i paid for items via Paypal, i was asked if i wanted to pay from my bank but i opted to pay by credit card for two items, however paypal still tried to take the money from my bank which incurred bank charges of £80.00 as the funds were not there, they then took it from the Credit Card.
The banks are very keen to promote DD as an extremely safe way to pay, and the protection you have is quite robust.
Since you did not tell pp that they could take the money from your bank account, theire attempt to do so is unauthorised and you should simply tell your bank that the attempted debit was not authorised by you and instruct them you expect all charges made as a result of the unauthorised attempt to be reversed.
Don't take no for an answer, and consider the banking ombudsman if they will not cooperate.0 -

Thanks for your reply, I have complained over and over again to Cahoot Customer services which have proven record of lack concern and ability to resolve issues such asthese and many more. Yesterday I involved Abbeys Management section as they have a more hands on approach and are aware of Cahoots poor service record, Management advised me all had been resolved "they were assured from Cahoot" NOT?
Today I have been advised from Abbey that I will be refunded for the charges. Also money which Cahoot had mislaid has been found and will be paid into my account with in 74 hours.
Martin states on the home page that this is one of the only banks that don't require you have your wages paid in. I cast my mind back to the early days of this site when Martin had to deal with this bank on my behalf because a Guy at Cahoot Customer Services at non management level closed every single account we had with them which I was then compensated for. Since then I wont leave to much money with Cahoot as they are not very secure as once again recent events have proven.

ukbill69 wrote:Sorry but can you read???, Guess not. Helping People Save Money, How the hell am I saving the guy money?????
If you read paypals terms your are not covered. Have you tryed to get money back???, Guess not. I have tryed and many others I know to have failed.
If its a stolen card they used then good luck lol that it sounds like it is. It doesnt matter how much info you give ebay/paypal to support your claim they will give the money back to the card holder, no questions asked to the card holder, but 1 bit of paper saying they do not know what it is and they have there money back within 24 hours.
And a word to anyone that asks questions then please use the seach tool at the top before you ask.
Hello. Are you aware you come across as rude and condescending on your posts? Sometimes I feel like giving up on this site because of people like you, always ready to pick holes in posts, cant you try to be a bit nicer? Pleeeeese?I love this site :beer:0 -
I would second the above post. ukbill69 I think the tone of your posts in this particular thread have been rather unhelpful. I can't account for how you post elsewhere as I can't recall seeing you alot on this particular part of the board (apologies if you are).
You say you've experienced the problem yourself but I am certain when you experiened it, if you would have posted on a board like this, then you'd have wanted some real support, such as been given by other uses, offering advice, rather than simply saying its a lost cause.
Sorry if I've misinterpreted your posts in the thread but a lack of sensitivity towards other peoples situations infuriates me.Stuff Happens As Wave of Ambiguity Spreads:cool:0 -
You need to be careful in general with ebay. It is possible to buy something and get your money back or sell something and still keep the item.
Basically even with recorded delivery, some posties still push it through your door. I ordered a memory card for my camera and came home yesterday to find it had been posted through my door. I could raise a paypal not received items and easily get my money because there was no signature for the post.
Also with buying things, I bought a pair of jeans, they turned up but they were really bad fakes, they had tags of one brand but the name of the cheap brand on the pocket! I complained to paypal for counterfeit items and even took pictures of them to put onto their form they supply to fill in. After much chasing they said I had to send them back recorded delivery. A few days later Paypal awarded the case in their favour. It took me 3 phone calls to realise that because the seller hadn't signed for the jeans then they got sent back to me again. So I lost on about 3 counts there.
Another time I sold a digibox with no problems until 2 months later a chargeback was actioned. Paypal froze my account (I hadn't the funds in there) and they investigated. Apart from making me feel like a criminal it was very inconvient.
I couldn't find the sellers address or kept the emails they had sent me in the past but I knew they had received it because they had emailed me to confirm. So I lost out on the item, postage, ebay fee, paypal fee and a nice investigation charge all totatlling to about 70 quid.
Sorry to rant but you take a risk with paypal as they don't protect their buyers or sellers.
I hope you have success though so I suggest keep ringing them up0
