Flying to New York this winter...

  • I've been to new York twice, 5 years apart. JFK first time and Newark second time. I much prefer Newark and you can hop on a train which gets you into Penn Station in Manhattan, so easy. Not sure if there is now a rail link from JFK, I'm sure someone will know, its quicker than taking a bus.

Immigration is much quicker at Newark than JFK, well organised and quick.

As for flights, we went via Paris with Air France first time which I wouldn't recommend as we got stuck in Paris on our way back for hours as our flight had been delayed from JFK so we missed our connection. Second time we flew direct with Continental and it was fine. Flight back had terrible turbulance but the flight over was great and I slept like a baby most of the way. I am a very very nervous flyer!! I think the first time we went the flight was ok, had to circle about near New York due to a snow storm but not much turbulance from memory. You can go via Iceland and stop over, which would be lovely but Iceland is supposed to be very expensive, save your money for NYC!!

I think its probably just down to the day you travel, you can never tell what the weather will be like in Summer or Winter.

Its well worth going to New York, I absolutely love it and am desperate to go back but sadly skint so not for a good couple of years til I save up my pennies. Have an amazing time when you do go!
