Am I missing something - what did the letter from the council actually say? If you aren't in debt then what is the problem within the letter?0
-
Your company can't do that - they can only credit check you when you are offered the job unless it states in your contract that you will be subjected to regular credit checks.
This is a personal issue that has nothing to do with work - you were foolish to let that girl open your personal mail.
I would contact ACAS - they are brilliant at things like this - although they might take a while to get hold of because they are mega busy!0 -
Hi All,
Thank you so much for your replies, I have had my meeting and I have it in writing that they don't intend to take it any further!!
I have called the council and they stated that on the 16th June the address was changed but they can not find out why as it was my address before hand, annoying. Whilst on the phone to them they stated that this bill is from 2006!! I informed them that I have never even had a bill for that period and want to know who and why the address was changed - the girl I spoke too was very nice and apologic with me which was OK ;o) but she did say that the best thing to do was to put it in writing to make a formal complaint about this which I will. I am going to call back tonight as I am more than sure I have already paid this, but need to get a bank statement from the beginning of this year but going to mention it to them anyways for them to check.
I provided two screen dumps of my credit report where it is showing I have no defaults since 2007 and that all my credit agreements are all showing each month as paid!
The council letter actually stated that the amount OS needs to be paid in the next 14 days to avoid court costs of £xx. Then on the very bottom line it stated that "your account is being prepared for issue to a firm of bailiffs" there is also a second form for me to fill in asking for financial information how much is rent, gas, water etc
So, so far I still have a job which is a good point but I am working with people who would stab you in the back in a moments notice ;o( so work life is now different to my home life and yes learnt the hard way but I think everyone does (probably not, probably just me lol) I did feel much better after my mum in law and I had a few glasses of red ;o)
Thank you to all of you, really appreciate it I am glad this site is here ;o)
Thanks again

Not a bad lesson to learn!
Just shows their true colours doesn't it?
Have you thought of lodging a grievance complaint?
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
It does Linda, trust me I wont be putting myself in that position again
I did think about it and my OH has told me to but I think I will just record everything and anything else that comes up I already have a list of items where I feel I have been put in the incorrect situation so I am just waiting for the next issue the try to bring up, going to keep my head down and try and keep a job and sort this bill out :j
Thanks Linda, xx0 -
Keep your relationship with your colleagues "friendly" but impersonal .... if you see what I mean. Smile and be friendly, but give nothing awayWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

DVardysShadow point taken:p
Bubbles apoligies for the comments made earlier :A.
No CT letters to bubbles abode
Cant understand why this CT bill/ DEMAND has been adressed to bubbles employers
dont think weve got the whole picture here.I know in certain finance jobs CCJ 'S are frowned upon
Not saying it is a CCJ
The Council Tax equivalent is a Liability Order (issued by a magistrates court, a CCJ is issued by a Crown Court). A Liability Order doesn't affect your credit rating. The council letter actually stated that the amount OS needs to be paid in the next 14 days to avoid court costs of £xx
It sounds like its actually the court summons you have received which will give 14 days notice of the court hearing and the request for a Liability Order to be granted with costs. The form enclosed is regulation 36 form (usually called Request for Information Form or similar) which you are legally obliged to complete and return if the council have sent it and the Liability Order is granted.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Just my two pence worth on the situation but I would definitely take the advice of the lady you met with (was she from HR?) and lodge a complaint/grievance. Your trust in a colleague was breached and that should be addressed formally. You should also ask for HR to strike all reference concerning this affair from your personnel file ie: there should be no record that your integrity was in question.
Did they ever actually explain what their reasoning was for investigating you?0 -
From your notes it would appear that you are meeting/have met with your employers today.
It would be helpful to hear what happened in order that you can be advised on legality etc going forward. If you cannot finda copy of your contract, request one plus a copy of the disciplinary procedure.0 -
My goodness - why would someone be dismissed for having debt??
Surely most people have a loan or a credit card? Or am I missing something here?
Or a mortgage....
Good point! I can't see how your personal situation affects your ability to do your job OP. Read that contract asap! xxIf at first you don't succeed, then sky-diving isn't for you
