Good afternoon,
No probs Junior fair comment if I didnt manage it properly which some peeps dont but all well nearly all under control - I really dont know why they have sent the bill to my work address nor do I know where they have got it from, but will be calling them (would have called them sooner but dropped my phone in the bath, so its broken and have to wait for the insurance claim to be processed ;o( so waiting for OH to come home)
For my contract which I am currently unable to locate i am normally well organised but we have just cleaned out a couple of cupboards so have to wait for OH to come home to see if he has seen it ;o( I do remember that a couple of employees have had attachement of earnings for council tax with the same company but they still work there?? I have had a CRB check also which came back clear ;o)
I have checked the policy under Gross Misconduct and I cant see anything about personal debt issues but can see this
Bringing the Company into serious disrepute so I surpose they could use that. I have just purchased my credit report and it does not appear on there so I can see that it isnt a CCJ
I did the girly thing and cried only because well two things really I am upset over the two people who I did think were actual friends and the full fact that I have got my finances under control and some Idot has sent a letter to my work address and I have had to sit there while my manager told me I had to write down all my debts (only two of them) and what CCJ's i have had in the past and why I hadnt said anything (which I said I wasnt asked to!!) So I was told to go home for the rest of the day and come in tomorrow and they will have another meeting so will see how that one goes!!
Its my own fault I surpose, life teaches you lots ;o(
xx
Thanks Shadow for your comments will take them on board

On what grounds are they requesting all this personal information?
Get onto ACAS or your Union if you're in one
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
My goodness - why would someone be dismissed for having debt??
Surely most people have a loan or a credit card? Or am I missing something here?
I would be surprised if 'most people have a loan or credit card'. Not everyone is in debt - a credit card is good debt if paid off every month.
This is clearly about being financially responsible to work in the finance department. Given the evidence so far I think they would be very hard pushed to sack the OP, just go ahead and get them the credit check and go from there.Life is too short to drink bad wine!0 -

I work in finance, on actually quite high position and this is the only time I've heard such a nonsense. Ability to deal with your private issues does not reflect your ability to do a job. Also some people get into such a situation due to no fault of their own, but their partners etc. and employer cannot know the circumstances.
However I work in export and all employees have to be checked because of us packing boxes and then they go straight on the plane - so the company has to be trustworthy that noone did anything inappropriate with the package.
Saying that, the checks make sure there were no issues with police or something like that, surely nothing to do with missed bill.
OP you need to find the Contract of employment. I've never seen anything like this.0 -

.
Not only that - have you been on the stoozing part of this forum? Most of us "stoozers" have officialy thousands in debt (which is the only accesible part to third parties like this), while we have thousands in saving accounts to earn interest and make serious money out of this...;-)0 -
Just an idea but are the company worrying that you have given the council your work address as your main address and concerned the bailiffs are going to turn up there? Sounds a bit far fetched but its the only reason I can think of for their over reaction
:rolleyes:;):cool::o:rolleyes:;):o:o:cool:

I would be very wary of going into another meeting tomorrow and giving them any information they aren't entitled to.
Make it a priority to find your employment contract, and to speak to the council before you go in.
Unless you have a very unusual and quite frankly intrusive contract, they have no right to this kind of information (I've just checked my contract, which is EXACTLY the same as the one my colleagues in finance have, and there is no mention of anything to do with personal financial information), and you should not hand it over without knowing exactly what's going on.
I would also check your company's Data Protection policy, as this may have a bearing on what they can and can't ask you. If you're in a union, then ask them for advice (and possibly to attend the meeting). You could also consider talking to your HR rep. Whatever you do, make sure you record everything that happens as you may have grounds for a grievance against your manager.
Unfortunately you've learnt the hard way that friends at work aren't necessarily friends. First and foremost they're your colleagues, and although it's disappointing not to be able to trust them, you have to remember that working together doesn't necessarily make you friends, and can actually make it difficult. I now try to keep my work and personal lives separate - I've met some great people through work, and many of them have become 'proper' friends after one or other of us has moved on and we've found we still have things in common and want to stay in touch, but it's not until the working relationship has gone that it's been clear whethere there is actually a basis for a friendship or we're simply colleagues who get on well.
Good luck tomorrow.0
