Vodafone termination fees..

I cancelled my contract with Vodafone in May, two months early, and paid the outstanding amount I owed in the normal way- by direct debit. Today I have received a letter from Vodafone that references 'changes to the interpretation of consumer regulations' about termination fees that 'should reduce the final payment required by Vodafone'

The letter says that as a 'goodwill gesture' they will provide a discount to the value of my final bill. The thing is, my bill is already paid?

It's a generic letter, that has obviously gone out to large amounts of people, it's not personal to me. My question is would the letter suggest I've any right to a refund of the final bill I paid or am I being overoptimistic?!

Thank you in advance for any advice : )

    Hi panda00 ,

That discount is 25% , I'm sure if you ring vodafone they will be able to sort you out.

Vodafone's termination fee is calculated like this:

Remaining months of contract x line rental {What you pay a month} - 25% discount as you are not actually using the service - VAT @ 15%

Give them a call , you don't ask you don't get!

  • Thanks CLLC, I'll give them a call tonight. I just wanted to know what I was talking about and what I could reasonably expect from them. Saves me sounding clueless on the phone, and might mean they are more inclined to give me something! : )

    Your welcome Panda00 :)

    Whatever you paid , it should be a quarter of that which is 25% {e.g. if it cost you £100 you should get £25 back}

Id be interested in this too, as im just about to cancel my contract and would like to know if i need to ask or to expect this discount.

    Cheers

Edit: Just found this on the voda forums from one of their reps

Any customer looking to cancel their account can do so with 30 days written notice as per the terms and conditions. Please be aware that the standard early termination fee is the line rental, multiplied by the months remaining minus 25% from the sum and minus VAT. This can in some cases be costly so if I can fix this for you to save you the money then that would be great.

    Hi ,

I am not sure if any other network does this offer this with the 25% discount. I only know for sure that Vodafone do offer it.

It usually goes like this , You cancel , they charge you the fee and then you get the 25% applied afterwords. If your looking for more info I found this useful page in the Vodafone help centre: How can I end my Vodafone Pay monthly Contract?
If you want to end your contract, please write to us giving one calendar months notice. You can send us a letter or an email - you will need to give the following information :

    • the account name, and account number
    • the invoice address
    • the mobile number to be terminated
    • the date of termination
    • the name of the account owner / administrator
    • tell us if you need a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code)
    • if the account has a password, please quote this in the letter or email.
    Send your letter to:

    Vodafone Limited
    PO Box 932
    DONCASTER
    DN4 5XW

View pay monthly airtime terms and conditions

Send an email to Customer Service

P.S. I know OFCOM recommend this Early termination fee discount but Network operators do not have to give this.
