Next won't give me an account ......

I have some vouchers/giftcard for Next (won them in the prize draw), and looking thru the website, it says I can use vouchers to pay an online account.

As online shopping is easier for me (I'm disabled) I thought "fair enough, I'll open an online account".

Registered on the website, it comes straight up to say they can't offer me an account, but I can use credit cards to make purchases (already knew that have done that in the past).

Can't understand why they just refuse to open an account. Our credit rating is OK

Are they not opening new accounts?

It's a nuisance, cos I hate going to the store to find the things I want aren't in stock.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

It may be that your "credit rating is OK" but that their system thinks you already have more than enough credit available to you.

Have you applied for other credit or new accounts recently? If you have applied for 2 or more in the last 3 months they might find that enough reason to refuse a Next account...
You could always call them and ask if they can over turn the decision to let you have a Next account...

i think looking at posts on MSE that next can be a bit funny.
i had an account with them for years and it was all cleared with nothing owed
when i moved they messed up my new address so got some letters returned
a few months later(all sorted out by then) i placed a £100 order to be refused and told my account was now at a £0 limit.
    so basically closed
  • Next do seem quite funny - they have recently halved my limit  but I never bothered asking them why as I never use it.

yup, well IIRC mine was well over a £3K limit and dropped to zero with no explanation
i only used it for the online sales so no big loss for me

I too had a £4k credit limit (how on earth did they think I could repay that, I'll never know). I repaid the full amount each month and without warning they have reduced my credit limit to £500, that actually suits me. Next isn't what it used to be, the quality is getting poorer and the prices are getting higher.

This doesn't help the OP of course, do you have a friend who has an account and could order you some stuff?

My credit rating is shocking due to have a ccj and debt a few years ago(although cleared they still show up on my credit file for the next couple of years.
Anyway two months i ordered some items from Next - assuming i could pay on my card, but at the end of the transaction it stated that i would hear from them with a responce as to whether i could have credit with them.
So i rang them up and asked could i pay for the items on my card and they said no i would hae to wait to find out if i could have credit.
Anyway next day my items turned up, so i rang back and they said i had been given an account of upto £300.
Never thought that i would be given credit until the items had come of my credit file.

The clothes all look the same ... cheap tat! I could find better quality in Matalan for half the price tag!
  • why nor email or (gosh!) write to local store, asking if they could set up an account for vouchers only, or if they would deliver (great PR, in this credit crunchy age..?)

give them details of the vouchers so they could verify..

or might be worth selling vouchers on ebay, and buying clothes elsewhere that are better value, to start with.
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
