Our family of 4 flew Air India to NY in 2003 with no real problems (Heathrow check in was a bit shambolic). Food OK but nothing special. Immigration wasn't that slow. Although there were a lot of non-US citizens, once all of the US citizens had gone through they allowed the rest of us to use the US-only desks. It was quicker than last summer when we flew BA (airmiles) and our flight and a Japanese 747 had to clear immigration at the same time. That took over an hour!

hi i used to sell flights and while air india wasn't too bad an airline some passengers would complian that most of the passengers would smell!!! it put them off so much they would fly not with them again.
Air India flight would be originating in India and using london as a refuel stop and to let some passengers on/off and then carring on to nyc.
I have travelled with AA and found them very good.
kuwait airlines have an extra hour to check in compared to other airlines because of extra security checks.
humm American airlines seems the best bet.

I can only speak of my experience with American Airlines which has been excellant on every occassion - I have not used the other airlines, & neither would I if American was flying the same route.

One quick word of warnig though, don't expect much in the way of charm from the stewardesses - humourless hatchet faced harridans springs to mind !
