No doubt it will here. Already said I doubt the money will run out for this scheme. One in five cars last month bought on it. If those hadn't have been bought, it would have been another drop in sales.

Well unless the Government extend the scheme to nearly new cars too, it will not take off as much as they wanted.

Funnily enough some garages are going overboard to avoid the scrappage of some old cars - radio 4 had a programme earlier where some garages were going out of their way to encourage a private sale of what they classed as classic collecter item cars.

I wouldnt mind trading my old banger for a new gwiz, with 2 k off.

Any more incentives for green cars these days?

There's the saving on road tax - ironically much of what many save with the 2K (after losses for driving off the forecourt) will be eaten a few times in extra road tax.

I'm waiting for the government to add the DVD, sofa and portable MP3 scrappage schemes so we can all 'save' some more jobs.

Hopefully with these examples the clueless who actually think this 'saves' jobs will get the message but I doubt it.

AIUI from a friend, the garages have to scrap the traded in cars, which I've always thought is a stupid idea considering this scheme is often put forward as a green thing.

All this is doing (besides a few people saving in the "very" short term on the price of a car) is saving jobs, some here in the UK, great in the short term. As we don't really manufacture any cars here that the man in the street buys then the profits are going abroad, this can't go on forever. What are others in the world doing for us?? Surely we need to start to make things again. Small acorns etc etc.??
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

There is nothing green about it, as I believe they don't even break them for spares, they are crushed.

Get in there Mr Broderick, Get in there. What chance I can offload my 51 plate Almera and replace it with a busty, brazen, Qashqai - or even a cheeky Punto if the fancy takes me?|
