If money isn't an issue then Acer (for me) isn't "the best". I love ThinkPads: yes they are ugly (although I do prefer the plainess of it) and they are indestrutible, light, fast.
Spot on my friend, IBM/Lenovo make the best laptop's in the world, period.
Trackpoint (excellent) or Touchpad (I turned off in bios), keypad illumination, titanium chassis is almost indestructible, the screen has a matt finish so you can use it in sunlight (hate shiney laptops), battery will run for more than 4 hours and the optional docking station turns it into a desktop PC in seconds.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I really like my guitar amplifiers because it's one area that modern digital technology hasn't managed to beat over the years. Glass valves still give the best sound, especially the tonal variety between the different brands and types that you can put in. Shame they're so expensive for the ex Soviet Army stock ones that I've been using recently. I also quite like how the design of my Bass guitar has remained pretty much unchanged since the 60's, there's just some things that can't be beaten.0

I totally agree; I have an old handmade valve amp, and it's beautiful. It's all point to point wiring inside - there isn't a circuit board to be seen. Technology sometimes reaches a point where it's as good as it's going to get, and then any future "improvements" are more about convenience than actually making the product perform better.
Even a well maintained reel to reel tape recorder blows the most expensive 21st century digital gear out of the water when it comes to sound quality, and that's 1930s technology.
Newer isn't always better.0 -
I agree with both anewhope and Marty J. Unfortunately the majority of people now are unlikely to have ever had the benefit of listening to a valve amp. Even if they get the chance, would they really appreciate it, or say "yeah, nice" then stick their earphones back in and switch on their MP3 player?Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

I'm in my twenties, I don't think my ears could physically detect any supposed audio benefit beyond a normal CD sampling rate at most anyway and they'll only detect less and less with time. I'm always wary of anything that falls within "audiophile" category."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You mean ipod, stupid apple!!0 -
I buy certain things because I hope they will do the job, and they're cheap enough and not too risky a choice. I keep on using them because they seem to do the job.0

I've not got any real favorite products, there are a few brands I'll always recommend... Dell, over my career in IT I've bought and installed over 1000 dell PCs, laptops and servers, very few faults over such a large number of systems. Customer service (business section) is faultless... Netgear and Cisco (Linsys) produce good solid hardware...
I have used a lareg number of computers since my first foray into programming a ZX81 back in the early 80s. I have had apple, windows and linux systems, love all of them. XP is my current fave running on my 5 year old dell. I love Nvidia graphics cards, wouldn't touch ATi with a barge pole....
I love open source software and try to promote its use at every oppertunity. However after trying then downloading CS4 I have to admit that whilst Gimp is a fantastic graphics tool, photoshops' newest incarnation is better.
Budget constraints stop me buying apple right now when I know I can get more computer for my £££'s with a linux/ windows based system
Love nokia phones.. hard wearing and just work, which is more than can be said for the new LG crap'o'matic I have on contract now till next year some time...
