Superficial in that this is the usual flexing of muscle by ETA to prove the usual point that they are still capable of disruption
The actual threat to tourists is low and once the Spanish Royal Family shuffle off back to the mainland it'll be even lower0 -
I just want to thank you all for your help.
You have made me feel better, the fact that some of you are just back from it in the midst of it all and some of you are still going.
I think we will go ahead. I have never been there before and it is the kids first time away.
Thank you again.:A:kisses:Winnings 2009: Rimmel Pro Lycra Nail Polish.

I very almost booked a few days in Mallorca, but at the last minute plumped for a deal in Corfu (love Greek food!).
I turned off the PC after booking, switched on the TV and there were the news reports of the bombing. Had I just booked Mallorca, I would have been crestfallen- going from excitement to "oh b****ox" in the space of ten minutes. However, I'd have still gone, and while we were there we would have still kicked back & relaxed.
Have a great time.

I am a bit concerned, we fly out to Majorca in 12 days, but staying in Alcudia, long way from where all this trouble has occured. I did however call First Choice this afternoon who told me they a taking advice from the Foreign Office on an hourly basis and may well be contacting all customers who have an imminent departure to Majorca tomorrow.
Which, in itself is a bit worrying.

I'd be inclined to monitor what the FCO website says.
If it advises against all travel (IMHO unlikely) then you have your answer.
I personally wouldn't let it put me off.
Look at what happened in London on 7/7/2005.
I've travelled to Sri Lanka and Bali whilst there was potential terrorist threat without problems and was also in Turkey when a bomb was set off in a rubbish bin on the beach in our resort.0 -
I work on the basis that the safest time to go is just after there's been an incident as the security services will be much more alert and on the ball.
Like previous posters have said, keep an eye of the foreign office advice and be guided by that. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

There's not much they can say
Some Foreign Offices have equally similar advice for its citizens travelling to the UK and you don't change your routine here.
ETA's intention is not to blow up Mr and Mrs Smith on a 2 week package. It's to make Mrs and Mr Smith think that Spain is unsafe and that they should book elsewhere to the point of the Spanish Govt beginning to negotiate with ETA.
Alas, the first part may work but the second won't. The Govt won't negotiate with ETA. Even in its own region ETA is unpopular with many for its tactics.
Go Enjoy Mallorca, take the usual precautions, if any, that you would here.
If you don't, then ETA win.0 -
I would go, and have a great time. I dont think that you will get any money back from Jet2 for the trip so go and enjoy :j :jcross stitch cafe #90 UFO's 6 to finish in 2013, and loads of new kits to boot

The Foreign Office is lumping all of Spain in the same boat as Mallorca. It appears they think the attacks (if any more) could be anywhere. They also believe the attacks aren't aimed at British nationals, but they could get caught up in them. The advice is to be vigilant, just like it was in the days of the IRA here in the UK.
I seriously doubt the FO will stop travel, and holidays be cancelled.
We are due to fly out Sunday, and can't wait. Mallorca is a great place and I don't want to see ETA win. We are staying in Cala Bona which is on the other side of the island and a quiet place. We have discussed the issue with our children (15 & 12) and they are still excited about their trip. We realise security will be tighter, but that's OK.0
