Does anyone know if BT still offer a recorded announcement service on your old number to tell people your new number, if so what does it cost?

This is wanted due to moving house not because of harassment.

I take it you're moving far enough that you'll be unable to keep the same number? They do offer the service but it may cost a fair (or maybe even unfair) amount!

    Few options really,

Caller Redirect allows you to direct calls made to your old number directly to your new one but it costs a little less than the line rental.

Or you could jus leave a phone in the house with an answer message giving people the new number then cancel in say 2 weeks time?

BT website is best place to look.

Yes, over 100 miles. It is just a recorded announcement I am after for a month or so.

No one will be moving in for a few months, and forwarding does not tell them a new number and we will be unaware they have been forwarded to be able to tell them ourselves. BT website is never best, if you try and search for a service when you don't know its name it is horrendous.

It's called Changed Number Announcement (CNA).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

My advice would be to leave a phone with a recorded answer phone message in there for a month. You can record the message informing people of your new number then just call BT to give them the 14 days notice they need :)

Thanks, can't find it in the Price List other than for use by 08 number users, makes me think it is not available to residential customers.

Straight from the BT website itself:

"CNA provides a Customer who is ceasing or changing Freefone 0800, 0808/BT 0845/BT 0870/BT Contactcall 0844, 0870 and BT 03 numbers a facility which allows calls to be directed to a standard recorded announcement, on network answering equipment, which advises callers to dial the appropriate number. Callers are charged the rate applicable to the number dialled. Customers with 0870 numbers connected to CNA will be liable to pay call charges for calls made to the 0870 numbers after the date Ofcom introduces a change in regulation which results in BT charging callers to 0870 the equivalent of the national geographic rate (national rate calls to numbers starting 01 or 02)."

What I gather from that is that Changed Number Announcement is only available if you have an 08 number.

Hope this helps with your queries.

I think keeping the line open for a couple of weeks with an answering message you have recorded yourself might be the best option for you then.

p.s. sorry I totally misred one of your posts and gave you information you had already found yourself lol

This it totally possible, i set it up only 2 months ago as i had to change numbers for my business as I was moving to another exchange.

Anyway, i think they called it a CNI and it is roughly £33 per quarter, and literally has a recorded message saying, this number has now changed to.......!

    Hope that helps!
