Anyone know a good website to find cheap Bed and Breakfast. I have teied some sites and they keep directing me back to hotels that cost the earth. I am going to a wedding in Witney Oxon, on May 6th. I would like a cheap B & B and not the wedding hotel at £95 a night.
Any ideas please

you could have a look on www.laterooms.com - might come up with something in the area.
However, my experience of trying to book a b&b when going to a wedding was the following
1. We dont do 1 night stays
2. We dont dont allow anyone to stay that is going to a wedding
3. Even if we had been staying 2 nights and pretended not to be going to a wedding, it would have been almost as cheap to stay in a nice hotel.
Another friend had the experience of booking a b&b and being told to take her own slippers - I assumed it was for her comfort (stone floors) - but no, the landlady did not allow outdoor shoes of any description within her palace. Again, minimum of 2 nights and no wedding guests. This was in the chilterns and cost around £80 per night for a couple.
Come back Fawlty Towers all is forgiven.
In the end, we are going to drive home after the wedding (saving the hotel money) - luckily one of our party is teetotal (no room in the wedding hotel).
Also, although not cheap, sometimes worth staying in the hotel as you dont have to bother getting a taxi to and from your hotel if you are intending to drink, and it is quite nice to have breakfast with all the other guests next morning.0 -

They sound hilarious! My folks stayed in a B&B in brecon once where the landlady was like 'You'll be wanting to get going nice and early in the morning, then...'
So many wedding hotels are really pricey. The last wedding we went to the rooms were £200 a night. Thankfully, by the time we found that out the rooms were booked up. So we called the groom and said the hotel was fully booked so we'd stay at a B&B down the road. Ten mins later he called us back and said 'Don't worry, we've kicked a relative out of her room so you can have it. And the bonus is it's one of the super deluxe rooms...' £275!! We politely declined, and stayed in a £30 a night B&B instead, complete with the most amazing breakfast.
I've stayed in various B&Bs instead of expensive wedding hotels, and never had a problem.
Have you tried contacting the local tourist information place? they usually have a list of B&Bs.
Also a lot of wedding couples put together a list of local B&Bs for people when the hotel is full. So it's worth asking them as they've probably had other people ask already.

The two websites that I use for booking B&Bs are:
www.smoothhound.co.uk
www.bedandbreakfastnationwide.co.uk
We're staying at a B&B from the second website for a wedding in August. The list of accommodation that was included in the invitation was all over £100 a night  some of them not including breakfast! The one that we're staying in will be £60 for the room, including breakfast, and is only 1 mile away from where the wedding is being held.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -

They gave the English tourist board website address. Funny thing is the family own a very nice B & B in Moreton on Marsh, but it's full with the wedding party.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Ah, I have infact been to a wedding there and stayed the night. You are right to try and stay elsewhere. It was way over priced and the service was not great. Lovely house and grounds though.
The place is on the outskirts of Witney going towards Oxford. You should find a few decent B&Bs round there. This place is quite close http://www.country-accom.co.uk/forge-cottage/0
