I really feel for you as i had this problem with my 18 year old DS a few months ago. I used bicarb of soda and sprinkled it liberally everywhere. Then vac up an hour or so later. Do another look around because it does rather spread so see if there is any that you might have missed. I had to buy a vax machine and it did work but only after i had bicarb everywhere. TBH it is not the same and Im looking forward to my DS leaving home when I will skip his bedroom and lay nice laminate flooring. I can dream cant I? Why not swap bedrooms...it can be decorated later.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Another way that I have just thought of is to put a tablespoon full of bicarb into the vax with warm water and run it over the carpet again.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

If it has soaked down into underlay/floorboards, I would try soaking the area in a strong bicarb solution for a while, then use the vax to clean it up. In the mean time, tell your 15 year old that she can sleep in your son's room until the smell goes away. It will fade away in time, so don't panic about redecorating just yet... Plus, if she has to live with it, she might have a go at cleaning it herself, especially if she has to sleep with the window open in this weather! A bowl of dry bicarb in the room might also help to freshen the air and soak up some of the smells.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
  • Try this site this is what the professionals use - expensive but a little goes a long way and the pack will last you for ages and it definitley works my DH has a pack he bought two years ago and he cleans carpets for a living it really works !!

Vodka !!! gets rid of the smell of almost anything, cover the area in it, leave it for a while, and then go over it with our vax, xx
  • Try Simple Solution - they sell it in Pets At Home. It works well for both human and animal "mishaps" and is worth every penny.

Bissell Pet Odour formula is also useful, but try the Simple Solution first.

This would be my recommendation too. We bought simple solution when 2 of our cats took to peeing in a certain spot , it got rid of the smell and the peeing stopped. It came in very handy when DS2 decided to eat is way through xmas day - with predictable results. I spent a good while on boxing day trying to get the floorboards in his room clean and smell free to no avail, OH suggested using the left over simple solution - it worked a treat:).

Make the 15 year old move the rooms round and paint the walls? Her friends, she was there watching it happen, so make it 100% her problem. I hope she's been doing the scrubbing btw, and paying for the cleaning products.

Bio washing powder gets rid of pet wee and poop smells as it breaks down the proteins, may work the same on vomit?
