Sony C910 - based on the popular k series of phones - need memory card added to use mp3 etc. battery life of the Sony phones tends to be better than nokia in my experience.

If she's anything like the 12 year old in our family she'll be after the Nokia N97 - not available on PAYG, best contract is £520 for 18 months on a contract, £440 from play dot com sim free. Really cool slidey movement, she told us. All the other wee girls have got one. Apparently.

**Rab** is right, plenty new handsets due to be released between october and xmas, so prob best to wait a while yet.
Once it's closer to the time and you have seen a few handsets that you/she likes have a look at this website www.gsmarena.com, lists all features of handsets and has a comparison function (best to ignore the opinions section though).0 -
Sony Ericson T303.
My youngest daughter's got one. It's not expensive and has a 1/3mp camera, and MP3 (IIRC).
Get one via Dialaphone and the chances are it will come unlocked. Hence if she gets fed up with her network, she has the option of getting a free sim from another provider and using that instead.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -

Haha my first phone was a motorola brick on one2one got it for xmas one year and i was so happy, looking back i should have been ashamed, it was massive and heavy i couldnt carry it in my pocket so it spent most of its life at home. I was the first in our year to get a phone so i was the 'cool' kid.
damn you pesky kids expecting a phone with an mp3, camera and microwave attached. I had a walkman and massive phone, kids dont kno how good they have it now0 -
Hi,
I have given my old "3" phone to my dd as she has just started "big school",I looked into just buying her a sim and found that 3 are doing the most fantastic offer for payg.
If you top up £10 online she will get 600 texts, free 3 to 3 calls, free skype, free windows live messenger, free 150mb internet usage +the £10 credit towards all other calls, also this is valid for 90 days!
If you have an old 3g phone all you need is a 3 sim, which incidently are free at the moment!Bargain,£3.33 a month and no top ups needed inbetween.
Even if the credit runs out the skype and live messenger are still free!
TBH it's worth buying a 3g "3" payg to get this anyway IMHO.
Best thing for me is if she does somehow manage to use 600 texts and £10 worth of calls is that she can still call me for free which is all she really needs the phone for anyway!LOL:beer:0 -
Will this be her 'first' mobile phone or a step up from what she's currently using? If its a first mobile, I'd recommend going online to each of the network providers websites & doing a UK coverage check for her home postcode for starters. There's nothing worse than having a smart 'everyone-else-has-got-one' phone when you can't get any network signal in your local area. It might also be a good idea to check the postcode area's of where she's most likely to use the phone as well. Another factor to take into consideration is which networks are her family & friends using? Being on the same network can make calls & texts cheaper.
Me personally, I wouldn't consider giving a contract phone to anyone whose not old enough to pay the bill themselves. It's all very well having a package of mins & text for 'cheap as chips' each month, along with the latest 'top of the range' phone. But what happens once those mins & texts run out? If a contract is what your thinking about, I'd suggest asking the question "How much will I be charged should I run out of my inclusive mins & texts?" before signing on the dotted line.
I'd agree with what some of the other posters have said about waiting until a little nearer Christmas as there may well be some new phones launched onto the market. It wasn't me.. honest..0
