Are you 100% sure? Because the 'workaround' mentioned on here many times over the years was to set up a standing order in branch (for 'tomorrow'), and then cancel it after the first (or rather one and only required) payment had been made.

And this was most definitely done by BACS.

So are you still 100% sure?

Technically, you could do this, I suppose, but then you'd need to be on the ball with cancelling the SO when the first payment was done, although as willo65 has mentioned aswell, doing this is not encouraged.

In the time that I've been working at RBS, I've not had one person who has mentioned doing this.

So you're also claiming that if you try to make a payment in branch and the recipient doesn't support FPS, then it will fail?

The in-branch system is known as Branch Single Payments (BSP) which is linked to, and uses, the Faster Payments system. The recipient sort code has to be able to receive Faster Payments because that is the method of transfer. You cannot make a "Non-Faster Payment" payment in branch.

This is also mentioned in the document that I linked earlier - BACS payments can only be done via telephony (Direct Banking) or digital banking.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

If you were to do more than one BACS payment to the solicitor this would also raise money laundering suspisions.

    Not true.

The solicitor should have verified your personal details, obtained details of your main bank account, where your savings are from etc to comply with the Money Laundering regulations before acting for you. .

They have to report you if they suspect your money comes a suspicious source, and should not act for you.

Due to having a conversation with a solicitor (not the one acting for me) even though I was using a different bank account as my main account, due to ensure the money was traceable I had to use my RBS account to give my deposit to the solicitor. And did it via 4 online banking BACS payments
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
