Paying for a dog walker...any advice?

That is acceptable - having the door closed for more than 2 hours is recognised as cruelty.
By who? I don't know anybody who only sleeps 2 hours a night on a regular basis and I know many people who crate train their dogs as is often recommended by rescues including the RSPCA.I have never met an RSPCA inspector who would condone killing a healthy animal, and if that is true, they should be reported. The RSPCA saves millions of animals every year and never puts a healthy animal down, if you know otherwise, you have a duty to tell someone.
The RSPCA do put down animals if they cannot rehome them - I do actually understand this and while it is very sad, sometimes it is inevitable. BTW, have you ever tried to report a RSPCA inspector? They think they are a law onto themselves - if it was just an occasional employee/volunteer who acted like this, I would be inclined to blame "a bad apple in the barrel" but IME it is an attitude so widespread that you have to look at the organisation as a whole.....and wonder when politics overtook their core values.
If you need to report an RSPCA inspector (as long as it involves your own animals) make sure you call the police in - and get the backing of your vet - plus prepare for the expense of solictors and court fees. It' s wrong that an unelected organisation with no regulation or appeals process has so much power...0 -

With regards to the other matter - please speak to your vet regarding this as he/she will advise you on how crates should be used.
Try this article for size.
A much loved cat killed by an inspector in his garden within three hours of him collecting the cat - from the neighbours garden. And he got away with a warning.
There are many, many reports of the RSPCA turning their backs on people when they call needing assistance.0 -
Can we ge this thread back on topic and not let it descend into another "slate the RSPCA" thread please? Slating them isn't MSE and it isn't helpful to the OPs questions...

I think your post is a little unfair, to be honest.
Nippey wrote “The RSPCA saves millions of animals every year and never puts a healthy animal down, if you know otherwise, you have a duty to tell someone”. I had to respond to this or I would have looked like I was making up allegations about the RSPCA.
Besides which, crating a dog is perfectly relevant to the OP as they might like to consider the pros and cons of crating their pup as well as employing a dog walker.
Having said that, I will not post any further comments about the RSPCA.0 -

Dear all,
Having been involved with the RSPCA for years, I just wanted to add that crate training is a recognised method, however if you are keeping the puppy in the crate for more than 2 hours at any one time - this is cruelty.
Please ask your local Vet or RSPCA for advice.
The last place I would go for advice is the RSPCA, they are a law unto themselves and destroy perfectly healthy animals if they can't find homes for them.
Now that is cruel.
It is also the last charity on earth that I would give money to.
Just my tuppence...and I'm a big fan of crating it's far safer for the animal.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth
