Could I get an iPhone on this employee scheme?

Yes, I already have one, but my boyfriend would like one too now!!

Anyway, we have a scheme at work whereby you can buy a phone on PAYG with carphone warehouse and spread the cost of the handset over 12 months, directly through your pay. Here is the info from the website.
View the pay as you talk phone packages available on our providers’ websites: www.vodafone.co.uk or www.carphonewarehouse.co.uk OR you can visit any of their stores. Note some of the deals online may not be available in store.
  • Choose any handset you like, and decide how much you will want to top up each month. (Remember your top up level will be fixed for the 12 months).
  • Then go to <group website> to elect the most appropriate price level.
    • You can elect a maximum of £400 for a handset and a maximum of £50 for monthly top-up.
    • All the charges including your handset will be spread out over 12 months.
    • And your charges will be less tax and National Insurance savings – up to 41% reduction in price!
Note - You can only elect to have one pay as you talk mobile phone deal at a time.
As soon as your request is confirmed and validated by elect, you will receive a letter from our supplier phoneSimple along with a prepaid Phone gift card, branded as ‘Pure Card’.
    • The card will be loaded with your election amount for both the handset purchase price and the first monthly top-up
    • Activate your card by calling the Helpdesk on 0844 800 6436
  • Once your card is activated you can use the card to collect the phone you’ve chosen, and your pay as you talk phone deal from the store of your choice within the UK
  • The card MUST only be redeemed against a handset, accessories for the mobile and your chosen tariff. Due to the HMRC regulations for this product, the purchase of any other goods may result in disciplinary action being taken.
    • Your first month top up will be included on the prepaid card as many of the deals require the purchase of airtime at the same time. (Make sure that your first month’s airtime is loaded in-store when you collect your handset.)
    • The activation letter will advise you how to confirm your telephone number in order for phoneSimple to load your monthly top ups.
Please note:
    • You cannot be refunded any excess funds that you credit to the prepaid card, even if your initial choice of phone isn’t available in the shop or is cheaper. You can however purchase mobile phone accessories or additional airtime with any remaining balance.
    • You have the option of adding funds at the point of collection rather than electing a higher price point.

      Eg. Handset price = £215.00,
      • Choose £200 at election.
      • You can add £15.00 when you collect your handset rather than elect at the higher price of £300.00
Remember – not only are you getting tax and National Insurance savings on the cost of your phone and airtime, you’re also getting the opportunity to spread the cost of your handset over 12 months.
Additional Information:
  • You must elect a top-up amount to be credited to your phone every month. This amount can only be changed at each annual renewal date so please consider carefully. Remember you can always be able to top-up outside payroll e.g. via ATMs although this will not attract tax or NI savings
  • If you have an existing mobile phone number, you can switch this over to new networks. Details on how to do this are available from your network provider. If you switch or change your number after you have registed your top-up details with PhoneSimple you will need to contact them again to inform them of the change.
  • Remember, it is your responsibility to keep your card safe and do not disclose the activation code or PIN to anyone.
  • If your card is lost, stolen or you believe it may have been misused please ring 0844 800 6436. The provider will block the card and issue you with a new one. Please note there is an associated administration charge in such circumstances.
  • Before electing the elect Card you need to have read, understood and accepted the Terms and Conditions of Issue which are attached here.
There's no stars or extra T&Cs that look like it will stop me from getting iPhone but I understood there was no ways to get iPhones cheaper.....

I have worked out for £30 a month we could get a 16GB iPhone 3GS, this also includes £10 PAYG credit and O2 give you unlimited internet for 12 months too.

Too good to be true, surely?! Unfortunately that number is now closed for the weekend and nothing is coming up when I google 'PhoneSimple'....

I was looking at this too! Did you manage to find out if you could get one and how it would work?

The handset on PAYG is £400+ so would you be able to pay the extra amount up front?
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

You can pay the extra yes. I decided not to as Carphone Warehouse, where you'd have to get it from, don't often get iPhone stock

    Shame that...

I'm gonna find out from my local branch once my current contract is up - hopefully everyone else should have gone to the O2 shop next door to Carphone Warehouse :D
