So glad she is back home safe - that's a very pretty bandage she is sporting!!!
A few days TLC at home and I'm sure she'll be back to her usual tricks!
  • well.. Badger seems to be recovering well, but I have noticed that she is missing a nipple!! It looks like it may have been sliced off when they shaved her belly - I don't suppose she will miss it though!

Has anyone else's dog come back from the vets minus one nipple?

Hi, we have just been to the vets for 3 day checkup - I thought Badger may be less than keen to get there, seeing as last time she had an op and was there for three days... but no, she dragged me in, whining and wagging her tail!! The vet said the had been like it right up until her operation, and as soon as she came round :D The vet described her as a dog 'who is very pleased with life' - which I thought was a nice turn of phrase!

All good news today - her temperature is fine, which is great - as Rosie75 pointed out, there is a higher risk of infection after incisions into the stomach and bowels.

I thought her tongue felt hot when she licked my hand, and I was worried in case she had a bit of in infection, but the vet thinks that was probably because she had some lacerations inside her mouth. - When I looked at the remnants of the jam jar on saturday, I could see bits of dried blood on some of the sharp edges... she really is not easily put off eating!

Her scar looks ok even though she has caught it in one place and it bled a little, vet is happy she is eating normally as she was worried there may have been some fragments of glass in her aesophagus... so she can go back on to slightly more food now (she will be glad!) - she can come off the painkillers tomorrow, and is just on antibiotics and an antacid for her stomach...

So, back for the stitches out next Tuesday, then hopefully all will be sorted! Thank goodness, I can breath a sigh of relief now!

I meant to ask the vet about the mystery of the missing nipple, but forgot - it really doos look as though they accidentally shaved it off when preparing her for surgery, as it is several inches from the incision!
  • What a beautiful dog, I hope she gets well soon! Keep us posted please.

Lovely photos of Badger, hope she is feeling well now after her op. Is there any chance it could have been her juped up at the shelf and loosened it?

no, she never bother things like that - I can leave bags of shopping in the kitchen with food in and she never tries to get in to them, she is pretty good at not taking anything that she hasnt been told she can have.

I think the shelf just wasnt firmly enough fixed in and gave up the ghost! It has been up for about 4 years though, and never came down before - I guess it probably just had too much weight on it for the length of the screws into the wall.

I think when the jam landed (in the corner next to her bed) she must have though it was her lucky day!

I think she is feeling better today - she has just had a mad five minutes of rolling on the floor and chasing her tail! She is definitely getting bored and wants a walk!

  • ...an update for all of you who posted - Badger had her stitches out yesterday and is back on top form!

Thanks for all your good wishes, I was really very worried at the time, but happily it looks as though all is good and she seems to be doing very well - she can run off lead again now, so we will be off out for a few nice walks this week!

Oh, and as a point of interest for anyone who at any time thinks their dog may have eaten anything dodgy - it is worth checking it out ASAP, and apparently the x ray only costs £20, (at my vets anyway) so even if you are worrying over nothing it is not a big expenditure to be on the safe side! (I thought I was worrying unnecessarily at first, I reckoned she could never have managed to swallow glass! - so glad I took her to be checked over!)
