I would take some other car hire numbers in spain as a back up so you can get another comapny if it doen not pan out but it looks positive.

I've hired a car through Record Spain before (at Palma) and they were excellent, very professional and the car was absolutely spotlessly clean. I'd definitely recommend them.
Another vote for Record. They are a Spanish co and i have used them with no problems. they have their own website so you know your not dealing with some ripoff clearance house.
  • Hi,

I've just spoken to doyouspain as well, and have also been told there is no problem, not, of course, that that means anything if I turn up and have no car!!

I supose all I can do is take as many phone numbers as I can, just in case.

Thanks everyone, for all the reassurances and advice, lets all keep fingers crossed!

I have heard that there may be a shortage of cars in Spain available for hire during peak season as hire companies are cutting their liabilities due to the economy. Some brokers may well take your booking in the hope of securing a car and a fee for themselves but may then not be able to fulfil it due to this shortage.

    Yes it is..
  • Slightly related ...but wanted to share my experience some how.....I used Martin's tips on using car hire comparison sites and booked at least 2 months in advance to ge the best deal at Barcelona airport uisng SIXT car hire- not advisable- had to get a shuttle bus to a hotel as there was no desk at the airport- nightmare finding hotel when returning car and also they had a fuel policy which is not included in the price quoted- they give you the car full of petrol and you return it empty and get charged for the full tank- I only used the car to get to our Villa and back to the airport so wasted about 40 Euro and felt conned........staff and car were fine but thought I should warn anyone going to Barcelona.

This is standard practice for hire cars in Spain and they are allowed to charge more than the pump price as well !

We are flying out to Malaga on Sun 23rd so keeping our fingers crossed but have prebooked AND paid through Economycarhire in Dereham who we have used several times, as have my family who are going too. They still have cars available at decent prices, not the hyped up prices that some are trying to charge now

ETA - OMG I have just read these http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews51875.html
