I'm part of the team working on the new Clubcard.

First of all, it's not Clubcard 2, it's "Clubcard Squared". The premise is that you'll recieve one point for the first £10 you spend in a month, then 2 points for the second, 4 for the third, 8 for fourth, 16 for the fifth, and so on.

This is to reward higher spending customers, as a £100 spend will reward you with 1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128+256+512 points (1023 points).

Clubcard Deals will finish, but as you can see, spending £100 will give you £10.23 worth of points, to be spent as you wish.

Things like Double Up and till spits will end too, to make the system simpler.

To help keep track of your points, they must be spent within 24 hours of the end of the month, or they will expire. For security, you must visit your nearest Clubcard Squared Service Desk (there's one in Luton and one in Plymouth) and convert your points into vouchers. You can then use these vouchers at the CC Squared Redemption Centre in Basildon.

An administration charge of 1p per point is being added to points that are unused, to stop people hoarding points.

Existing Clubcard Plus holders will recieve a replacement card, a Clubcard Squared Super Bonus Plus Card. The CC2SB+ card will be chip and pin, avoiding the need to sign for purchases. This will also increase security. As a second security measure, the new cards will be 7 meters by 4 meters and made of anodised aluminum, in order to make it easier to see if someone's stealing your card. If stolen, the card will electify, and automatically taser the thief.

The Clubcard Squared also has a host of other benefits. Members can show their card at other supermarkets such as ASDA, Sainsbury's, and Morrisons, to recieve an instant discount of 0.0% off their food bill. This discount will be extended to other outlets soon.

Members will be automatically transitioned to the new cards in due course. A membership fee of £69.99 a month will apply, with a minimum membership term of 20 years. To opt out of the new chargable Squared scheme, current cardholders should call us on 0800 591866 and ask to speak to Mr. I. M. Stupid.

At what point while reading the above did you realise I was taking the mickey, then?

What a fab post - I was getting really worried, until the bit about having to go to Luton or Plymouth!!:rotfl:

Says its double points on everything- the person who posted it works at Tescos and was told by the manager it starts monday and is permanent.

Hope its double points on clubcard plus too!

If so, what's the catch? Slow phase out of the Deals scheme, only able to double up vouchers in store?

Tesco don't give with one hand without taking in the other.

I'm quite gutted at the Virgin restrictions - we've been saving our vouchers for around 4 years now to pay for a trip to New York - we've saved around £1400 (getting them re-issued once they expire) - which will pay for just over half of our trip - now it seems that it will be our limit and we will have to pay the rest!

After we've managed somehow to make use of our "deals" vouchers - we will be shopping elsewhere. All Tesco are interested in is their profits - they are not going to give us something that will cost them more - so whatever it is, it will just be worse for most customers anyway!

I occasionally shop at Morrisons and Sainsburys - I will certainly be frequenting them much more often.

  • Hi all,

Here's the press release announcing the changes. We're checking out the details and there will be a full news story soon!

TESCO DOUBLES CUSTOMER REWARDS IN FURTHER BOOST TO CLUBCARD

    - Almost half a million new customers sign up since May re-launch -
Tesco today announced the launch of Double Points on Clubcard giving customers even more reasons to shop at Tesco and making the UK’s most popular loyalty scheme bigger, better and more rewarding.

From Monday, Tesco Clubcard holders will receive double Clubcard points – two points for every £1 they spend across the store and online as Tesco says an even bigger thank you to shoppers.

The move is the next phase of Tesco’s Clubcard re-launch, following the success of ‘Double Up’ which doubled the reward for customers on selected categories and has attracted almost half a million new Clubcard customers in just three months. In the same period more than 1.5 million customers doubled up their vouchers with the most popular categories being clothing and wine.

Now Tesco has made a major change to the way customers collect points by automatically awarding double points across the store and online making Clubcard simpler and even more rewarding for customers.

Announcing the launch of ‘Double Points’, Carolyn Bradley, Tesco's UK Marketing Director said: "The UK’s biggest and best loyalty scheme just got even better for customers who stand to double their rewards simply by continuing to shop at Tesco. No other supermarket offers customers the low prices and great promotions they want as well as a big thank you for shopping.

“Clubcard is our unique way of rewarding customers for their loyalty and our latest research tells us that it is more important to them than ever before. As the rewards just got even bigger with Double Points we expect more customers will see the no catch money saving advantages of Clubcard and sign up. Why wouldn’t you? It’s free, it’s easy and all you have to do is shop!”

The move will help millions of families around the country make their money go further and has been launched in time for customers to receive vouchers in their next mailing before Christmas - the time when most customers need help to stretch their budgets.
A family spending £90 a week at Tesco* between now and Christmas could now earn £34 in Clubcard vouchers instead of £17. Vouchers can then be spent in store or online or exchanged for up to 4x the value on a great range of Clubcard Partner Offers. £34 in Clubcard Partner Offers vouchers is enough for a return flight to Paris just for doing the weekly shop!

Points can be collected on and used to buy products across the store and online from one of Tesco Direct’s best selling TVs - Panasonic 42” full HD LCD TV with built in Freeview - priced at £649.97 (earning customers 1298 Clubcard points instead of 649 points) to popular gift ideas such as a Nintendo Wii Console & Sports pack + Wii Fit priced at £219.97 (earning customers 438 Clubcard points instead of 219). The more customers spend at Tesco the bigger the rewards.

When stores around the country close on Sunday afternoon thousands of staff will work through the night to prepare the store for the launch and a nationwide marketing campaign will also begin which will include new television and print adverts.

I am being a bit thick and fuzzy today, due to being under the weather, so please be kind.

I have the original Tesco Credit Card, which I think gives me 3 points for every £2 spent in store. Does that mean I will now get 5 points for every £2 spent in store?

    Am I right or wrong?

I think the catches have already started,virgin/cosmos have apparantly increased prices to cc users and implemented a threshold on amount each passenger can use starting from 1st september, the new cinema scheme is £3 of deal vouchers for a £5-7 cinema ticket along way off 4x,the double up instore is getting pushed alot more than the deal partners 4x,alot of the deal partners eg harry ramsdens, yates, haven, pontins have left the scheme.as posters say above this is for tescos benefit not ours, deals WILL be cut(my opinion)
