    Thanks for your reply.

Have just tried again and spoke to someone else but again told can't cancel because I am not eligible.

He also said that every representative had been briefed this morning about who can and cannot cancel.

Sounds strange. If they're increasing the out of allowence minimum call charge and breaking their own T+C's, I don't understand why you wouldn't be allowed to cancel Even if you've not gone over your allowence before, it doesn't mean that you won't in future.

Reading through the other thread, it looks like Orange are now being a lot more strict unfortunately, as of yesterday afternoon. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=24035883&postcount=1034
  • tried again and was told as I hadn't went outside my minutes in the last 3 months that they didn't have to cancel. I asked if someone called next month to cancel and they had gone over their package minutes would they have the right to cancel and he pretty much said yes. My next bill is due in 9 days so I made a very short 0870 call this morning that will show on my bill, wait and see if they will cancel me then...

At least I got 1 of them cancelled no probs, watch this space
  • I phoned Orange this morning and was advised (by two different people) that their guidelines have changed as of yesterday. Apparently because I have not gone over my minutes from the past three months, I was not entitled to cancel. I explained that I may in future go over my minutes, to no avail. I stated that they are in breach of their own terms and conditions (section 14.3 on their website) but there is a clause which says something about "to the detriment of the customer". The guy at Orange said there was no detriment to me as I do not go over my minutes. Am furious with Orange - have been with them for many years and am paying £30 a month for 700 minutes and 100 texts. I don't need anywhere near that amount of minutes but my contract is up in February 2010 and I won't be eligible to review my package until November of this year. Even then it would only save me around £5.00 per month for around half the minutes allocated.

I will ask my husband to cancel his contract with them - unfortunately he has gone over his minutes before.

Is this just with Orange or is this happening to O2 customers as well?
  • What a PR delight this will be for Orange. Honestly, you wonder why companies spend all the money in the world on snazzy advertising etc, then try and pull a swifty like this and create ill feeling. Muppets.

I would assume if you keep within your allocated minutes each month you shouldn't worry.

could someone confirm for me if there is a certain time when you must have taken your contract out by in order for this to apply? My friend got a new orange contract about 2 months ago which he is no longer satisfied with, would he be able to get out of it this way? TIA
