    I've heard of something which users do that causes this:

    1. The 'buyer' places a winning bid on your item. They then immediately create an auction for exactly the same item on through another account, with a higher buy it now price (even though they do not have the item);

    2.If their auction ends at a higher price than yours, they will pay for and resell the item to their winning bidder. They would usually request you to send the item to an alternative address for them (their winning bidders address).

    3. If their auction ends at a lower price than their winning bid on your auction, they simply wash their hands of it and go for another.

    Hope that makes sense. I would check the feedback details of your buyer...it may show clues that they are doing the above. It is impossible to accidentally place a bid, as you have to log-in/enter highest price/double check and confirm......get them reported!

    Didn't a year or two ago someone got sent to jail for a few months for doing exactly this? They were bidding on computers and then selling them on Ebay on 1 day auctions to other people. However they got a bit carried away and started selling computers before they had actually won them!

    I would tend to agree with this, there seem to be a lot of buyers that do not pay & eBay seem more than happy to let them continue.

    This sounds so familiar. I got a very similar message after someone won a new raxor i was selling. They gave all sorts of excuses after I told him I had already sold to Second chance, in the end I did nothing, time elapsed, and I didnt open a dispute. I just put it down to a time waster.

    Just had a look on goofbay and my naughty buyer won an identical item to mine within the same hour last night.
    Me thinks they bid on 2 items not expecting to win both-mind you, saying that mine is the cheaper item. Wonder if they will pay the same stunt on the other seller?
