Hi
Can anyone advise me what to do please. Never come across this scenario before..
Auction finished on Wednesday. Thursday get a message
Hello!
Can I cancel this transaction as by mistake placed the bid but could not cancel. Can you make a second chance offer to previous buyer please.
The buyer has 84 so not a newbie. How the heck you make a bid by mistake I don't know
Had a look on ebay but about as clear as mud to me!
Any help greatly appreciated

Either the buyer has had second thoughts or its a honest mistake.
You've got 2 options depending on how nice your feeling.
Either raise the issue and say the buyer and seller agree to cancel the purchase and you get a credit back for your fees immiediately. Or raise it that they haven't paid after 7 days, then wait another 7 days for them to respond, and finally you can get your fee credit and issue a non paying bidder strike to the buyer.0 -
The general advice on here is that if you make an agreement with the other party to cancel the auction you are relying on the other person to agree with it and cancel it their end too, to get your fees back. This is the same person who 'accidentally' bid on your item, can you trust them?
The alternative is to open a non-paying bidder as mentioned, though I believe this risks a neg. Same situation happened to me for the first time the other week, I opened a NPB, then told them not to worry about it and I'd relist it. Waited the 8 days, closed it (giving them a strike) and blocked them from bidding in the future.0 -
i have had a few of these, most don't know that you can't give them an unpaid item strike if you issue a mutual withdrawal so i usually send them a message first explaining how the mutual withdrawal works and stating that i can only send it once so if they fail to complete it i will have no option but to issue an unpaid item strike to recover my fees stressing the fact that this will impact negatively on their account and can lead to ebay closing their account, only if i get back a message stating "yes i understand, thank you i will complete the withdrawal" do i send it, so far i have a 100% success rate.
Those that don't reply to my offer of a withdrawal get a strike, simples!0 -

this is what i do too, when i have to issue a strike because i'm not confidant they will complete the withdrawal if i get any angry messages i just play it down "oh don't worry that’s just a message ebay send out when you don't pay, i won't issue the unpaid item strike" then after 8 days i strike em and block em, job done

What exactly does a stike do to a buyer? Bit like feedback, it's meaningless.0

Not quite, get three in quick succession and you kiss goodbye to your account!
Oh yeah?
I reckon this buyer has a few more than three strikes and is still registered.0 -
The number of strikes required to kick someone off varies depending on their ebay history. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Don't forget as well that as sellers have the ability to block buyers who have two or more strikes persistent non payers effectively ban themselves from ebay anyway.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. She is a joke!
Of course as eBay won't let sellers leave negative feedback for the precious buyers, at first glance nothing looks wrong......0
